FROM COUTURE TO CANINES: CHICAGO’S SOCIAL SCENE UNLEASHED

The Farm in westmontWell, friends, the dog days of summer officially tapped out and somehow, I blinked and missed the whole thing. One minute we were dreaming of patio brunches and beach days, and the next? Poof. Gone. I didn’t even make it to my beloved farm stands or farmers markets this year. And let’s not even talk about the vacation that didn’t happen. Ouch. But this is Chicago, we don’t just sit around pouting into our iced coffee. We find the sparkle. Case in point: the fabulous, over-the-top Service Club of ChicagoDay on the Terrace” fashion show/fundraiser. It’s so big now that co-chairs Jean Antoniou, Sharyl Mackey and Tracey DiBuono might have to swap out the Peninsula catwalk for the United Center (and I’m only half kidding). And don’t get me started on the PAWS Chicago Beach Party, where fur babies reign supreme, tails wag like there’s no tomorrow and the Offshore Rooftop becomes a little slice of puppy paradise. So, buckle up, we’re diving into all the moments, causes and celebrations that make Chicago a city like no other.

The night was emceed by media personalities Lisa Dent of WGN Radio 720 and Jake Hamilton of WFLD TV/Channel 32, with event co-chairs Mandell and HeatherZimmerman guiding an evening that blended celebration with purpose. One of the evening’s most heartwarming moments was the adoptable pet showcase. Among the featured animals were Ritz, an 8-year-old Shih Tzu mix who had been abandoned, and Manny, a 4-month-old Chihuahua mix rescued from a

including its 360@CACC initiative in partnership with Chicago Animal Care & Control, the Lurie Spay/Neuter Clinic and the Nan & Wayne Kocourek Medical Center, a 30,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art facility dedicated to providing medical care for homeless pets. In addition to its Chicago programs, PAWS Chicago’s Disaster Relief Team responded to the recent catastrophic flash floods in the Texas Hill Country by partnering with Wings of Rescue, Concho Valley PAWS and Austin Pets Alive! to relocate dozens of pets previously housed in shelters overwhelmed by the disaster. More than just a festive summer soirée, PAWS Chicago’s Beach Party shined a spotlight on the city’s homeless pet population and the organization’s life-saving work. In 2024, PAWS served 23,842 homeless animals through spay/neuter surgeries, adoptions, fostering, medical care and community outreach programs.

The Service Club of Chicago just hosted its annual “Day on the Terrace” fashion show/fundraiser, this year themed “A Royal Garden Party.” For the past several years, this popular event has been a sellout, and this year was no

different. Returning co-chairs Jean Antoniou, Sharyl Mackey and Tracey DiBuono (who was also show producer) thrilled the crowd with major retailers and designers filling the runway with the hottest and latest fashions. This show is but one of many fundraisers this

nonprofit hosts to raise funds for its unique Philanthropic Grant Program. Other events include the gala, auxiliary board events, movie nights, cultural get-togethers and so much more. Established in 1890, the Service Club of Chicago is one of the oldest, if not THE oldest women’s charitable

organization in the city. Setting this f
un fact aside, their fundraising goal is unlike any other and exclusive to this organization. The Service Club members raise all the money that directly supports its Philanthropic Grant Fund, which in turn,

supports other nonprofits in the city and this is how they do it. The Philanthropic Committee reviews grant requests from dozens of local area nonprofits annually. The committee then determines where the SC funds will make the biggest impact. Staffed entirely by volunteer members who vet every single grant,

the committee ensures the organizations are stable and viable before they receive the support requested. Once an organization is fully vetted and awarded a grant, cash payments are NOT directly distributed to the grantee. This is what makes them different and able to make a difference among many nonprofits instead of just one. Payment is then made directly to the vendor for the allocated item and then that item is delivered to the organization to fulfill that specific, requested need. So, even though the Service Club’s “Day on the Terrace” was a fashionista’s dream, it also made dreams come true for those less fortunate.

With over 525 guests in attendance, the Gala raised more than $1.1 million to support Ravinia’s mission of providing music education and access to the arts for students across Lake and Cook Counties. The funds raised will directly benefit Ravinia’s Reach Teach Play programs which serve over

20,000 students annually. Cocktails began at 4:30 p.m. on the scenic North Lawn, followed by a 6:00 p.m. concert. Foster and O’Hara dazzled as Broadway luminaries making their Ravinia and Chicago Symphony Orchestra debuts.

Foster brought her trademark charisma, comedic flair and powerhouse vocal delivery; O’Hara impressed with her soprano and refined presence. The program opened with George Gershwin’s overture to “Girl Crazy” and included selections like Jeanine Tesori’s “Great Adventure,” Stephen Sondheim’s “What More Do I Need?,” David Yazbek’s “Answer Me,” Cole Porter’s “Anything Goes” and more. O’Hara charmed the audience with Kelli O’Hara’s “They Don’t Let You in the Opera (If You’re a Country Star)” while Foster offered a tender version of Joni Mitchell’s “A Case of You.” The popular medley and their duets earned frequent standing ovations. The concert finale was a moving performance of Bob Dylan’s “Make You Feel My Love,” featuring percussionist Wanye Williams, an alum of Reach Teach Play, on vibraphone, reinforcing the gala’s educational mission through music. Reach Teach Play scholars also performed earlier during cocktails and again during dinner in the Gala Tent, where Foster and O’Hara mingled warmly with guests and students alike before the evening concluded.

As many of you know by now, my Playboy memorabilia has been acquired by the Chicago History Museum. In my wildest dreams, I would’ve never thought I would land in a museum exhibit. Can you imagine a small-town girl, just seeking more excitement, would find herself in the

Chicago History Museum? My goal, when I was invited to come to Chicago with Playboy, was to find adventure- something more interesting than what I found in my own backyard. As I climbed the ranks through Playboy-from Bunny to Centerfold to Covergirl – I collected a treasure trove of

memorabilia that formed the backdrop and memories of my life. This collection includes, among other items: Bunny of the Year trophies, Playboy Bunny handbooks (how to do the Bunny dip!), a rule book for Playmates/ Bunnies living in the Chicago Playboy Mansion, my silver lamé Bunny of the Year costume, the invitation to Hef’s funeral in L.A., my union membership, a Playboy Covid-19 facemask with

my 1979 cover on it, a 1976 Playboy Bunny of the Year Pageant program, a large poster advertisement with my image on it for key club sales and hundreds of images. How did this all come about? Appraiser Laura Woolley was very, very kind to me and my collection (calling it the “most complete she’s ever seen”), so I came away from the experience on cloud nine. As it happened, this popular segment went viral, playing around the world! It caught the attention of Jessica Pushor, Chicago History Museum curator, who reached out to me, along with Michael Anderson (VP for External Engagement & Development), asking if I would be willing

to part with it for the museum. We went back and forth for over a year before I decided. Remember, this was a big part of my life and who I am, so I wasn’t anxious to part with it. But, after accepting that I can’t “take it with me,” I realized the significance of this opportunity – for many reasons. Of course, I’m honored and deeply flattered—and

truly, what better place for these treasures than Chicago, where Playboy was born? Also, the museum’s current Playboy collection could definitely use a boost. My donation not only makes the Chicago History Museum the only museum in the world with this caliber of Playboy pieces, but it also marks the first time a Bunny/Playmate is featured in a major

museum exhibition. I can’t help but think Hef would be very proud, especially since it’s in Chicago where he
was born. When this exhibit finally opens, I hope it will be embraced with open arms—just as I was made to feel special by Hugh Hefner himself. He had a remarkable way of making the Bunnies and Playmates feel cherished—as if we were part of his grand vision, not just figures in a magazine. That feeling—a flash of pride, excitement and belonging—will stay with me always, with or without the physical items. What truly matters is that moment in time, forever etched in my heart. And I haven’t given EVERYTHING away- so, there’s that. 😊 Below is a video produced by Troy and Elizabeth Mairs about the collection, while I still had it. Lol.

I’ve sadly missed out on so many friendly get-togethers and I would like to see this change in the New Year. I pray for continued good health for my loved ones and thank God for my blessings. I’m so appreciative of all who read Candid Candace, especially those who have been with me from the very beginning, in 2008! Queen Nikki Friar

There were so many holiday parties! I still think we are making up for lost time after Covid. I especially loved

celebrating Nikki Friar. Beloved by all, she will returning to her Scottish homeland in February. The room was packed at Marchesa for this early send-off with Nikki's dear friend, D.J. Madrid Perry playing the hottest beats- no one wanted to leave the dance floor! Her friend/boss Kathryn Alvera read a sweet letter from her friends before an amazing cake that looked exactly like a Louis Vuitton suitcase (complete with an edible passport on top) was cut. Nikki made a dramatic entrance down the staircase dressed in a hot pink, hi-low dress with a tulle edging that brought oohs and ahhs from the loving crowd. Even though she's not leaving until Feb., Chicago already feels like it has a piece missing.

Sherry Lea Holson hosted her annual Christmas Extravaganza at Knollwood Country Club in Lake Forest recently with around 150 of her closest friends. Her parties are always wrapped in kindness, with invitees to Facetune_15-12-2023-22-55-43this event encouraged to bring a toy, this year, for the kids at The Chicago Lighthouse, a nonprofit that is near and dear to her heart. (She was the organization's honoree in 2022). Ladies mixed and mingled in the club's beautifully decorated rooms before the lunch chimes rang. Then, all the festively dressed guests moved to the ballroom, which was truly a "White Christmas." Sherry had the room decorated all in white from the table linens to the ornaments on the tree, it was a beautiful vision.

Long tables displayed exquisitely wrapped ornaments for the ornament swap and gifts for the kiddos overflowed under the tree. One of the hallmarks of Sherry's party is

always the "table skits" where table-mates huddle together in private spaces to choreograph a skit performed to a chosen Christmas song. I've been lucky to sit with professional choreographer Tracey Tarantino DiBuono every year, which in my opinion, makes us an automatic winner! Tina Weller offered an inspiring toast to Sherry and, in one skit, professional singer Irene Mojica, performed the Christmas song herself for her table skit. In the past, Sherry has selected a variety of charities to receive the bounty of toys. She truly walks the walk in defining the spirit of Christmas. Cheers to you Sherry and congrats on another wonderful afternoon of camaraderie, holiday cheer and giving back.

Bears coach

Bears Coach Matt Eberflus beside a David Yarrow photograph.

Coming off a Bears win on a Monday night, the mood was celebratory at Art + Athletics, An Evening with World Renowned Artist & Storyteller David Yarrow recently. Chicago Bears Coach Matt Eberflus was presented with the Iron Horse Award, named in honor of Lou Gehrig, who battled ALS, just like Matt's dad, Stan Eberflus, Jr. “It was an honor for our charity to be the recipient of this wonderful evening. ALS United Greater Chicago is forever grateful to the Bears organization, Coach Eberflus, Arica Hilton and David Yarrow. It’s an evening we will never forget,” said Julie Sharpe, President and CEO of ALS United Greater Chicago. Lou Canellis, Fox 32’s sports

photograph he took of a bear in Iliamna, Alaska, to the guests for $2,000 each. Yarrow was signing, framing and sending them to all who made purchases. “The event raised over $100,000 thanks to Mr. Yarrow’s generosity and incredible talent. We are overwhelmed by it all,” continued Ms. Sharpe. The Iron Horse Award is given to the individual who displays the exact characteristics Lou Gehrig, the original Iron Horse, displayed on and off the field. Lou Gehrig was known for his humility, courage, strength, love for his family and a willingness and desire to stand back in the shadows while being part of an incredible team. He was a man’s man, who spoke the way he lived his life and not through words. The mission of the ALS United Chicago is to foster bold research initiatives, advance national and state advocacy efforts and provide comprehensive care and support to individuals and families affected by ALS. Dark wood, dimmed lighting and plush leather banquettes will create an atmosphere of understated luxury. A vintage-inspired cocktail menu, curated by expert mixologists, will add an extra layer of nostalgia to the experience. The restaurant’s name refers to Chris Maloyan, representing the butcher, and Chef Ramos as the bear. The space was formerly the Mayan Palace Mexican restaurant. With 2024 upon us and, as with everyone, it’s time for reflection. The past year has been both good and bad, with the good winning out, fortunately. First off, I feel that every day Shutterstock_2406742309we’re above ground is a good one so there’s that. Secondly, any day that my husband is happy and healthy is the best day of my life. Everything else is really just gravy. I never like thinking like a pessimist, but our political situation just sucks, and I’ll leave it at that. I Gratitude miss the days when political coverage was few and far between. Now I rarely watch television. On a brighter note, Chicago has never seemed more vibrant. Mind you, I’m looking at this from a writer’s perspective and I’ve never found so much to cover than in this past year. It’s almost like everyone is trying to make up for lost time since Covid. The nonprofits are doing well, with many having record-breaking events. The pop-up experiences have never been more prevalent, it seems like there’s one on every corner now but I’m not complaining. Chicago’s rich holiday offerings have included an abundance of twinkling lights, beautiful decor and a Santa in every store. And, even though Macy’s décor doesn’t come close to the days of Marshall Field’s, at least they’re still trying.

As far as NY resolutions, I think my friend and celebrity chef Jaime Laurita said it best, “I want to be more SELFish” and what he means by this is doing more things YOU want to do and not because you’re trying to make someone else happy.  I was curious as to what resolutions, hopes and dreams some CHI-lebrities might have for the coming year, so I quizzed them. Check out their thoughtful answers below!

people in Chicago is like no other. She is truly a politician who is looking out for us with her tax refunds to homeowners, ‘random acts of kindness,’ community outreach and so much more. Her hopes for 2024 are:

1)  That no one I love dies.

2)  That Mayor Brandon Johnson gets his act together.

3)  That the happy people in the mountains of Greece never come to know the evils of city living.

since 2007, has brought this award-winning company to ever greater heights. His New Year’s resolutions include:

1)  Giving more time to my family.

2)  Finding peace, understanding and tolerance across the world.

3)  Take care of The Joffrey Ballet and our exciting year ahead, both here in Chicago, across the U.S. and beyond.

Chef Jaime Laurita.

Celebrity Chef Jaime Laurita has been a force since he first started cooking for stars like Madonna, the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Aerosmith, to name a few. He is one of 11 kids born into a proud working-class Italian family. His sister, Caroline Manzo, was a Real Housewife of New Jersey. He and his husband Rich Lane were even married on the show. Here are his resolutions and hopes for a New Year:

1)   Practice putting myself in other people’s shoes to become even more giving.

2)   Mentor more children.

3)   Become more SELFish and allow me to love myself more.

4)   My hopes for 2024 are that the city of Chicago can get a handle on crime and the migrant situation. I’m praying that the world can come together politically.

countries, 47 states and more than 1300 cities). Nan has much to be grateful for as her son Keenan recently married the love of his life, Sophie Casey. But besides this happy news, she also hopes for:

1)   In our splintered world of conflict and turmoil, I want to focus on pushing harder to radiate energy, beauty, and unity into the world through dance.

2)   I also want to celebrate every day as a gift, full of positivity, kindness and love.

3)   And lastly, I am committed to writing it all down every day in my beautiful new journal gifted to me by a dear friend. I have much to be grateful for.

4)   For 2024, I hope the world finds balance and embraces all, despite differences. I hope everyone can lead with their hearts – not hatred, destruction and violence.

1)   Generally, I don’t make resolutions but instead goals. In 2024, I intend to reach more people and share the power of stories, especially through my book  recommendations. I intend to grow my mentoring program “Stories Matter” (professional female writers mentoring the next generation of female storytellers).

2)  I intend to spread the word and worth about pigs. Having rescued several, I hope to share their intelligence and charm so people would stop eating them.

3)  My hopes for 2024 are for more adventure, laughter and learning new things and to connect with more like-minded folks! Blessings to everyone for a grand 2024!

She was elected president of the Chicago Bar Assoc. where she became the first Black woman to lead the nation’s largest municipal bar association. Her New Year’s Eve resolutions are:

1)  I plan to get back to my routine of focusing on physical fitness including jogging and exercising 5 times per week.

2)  I also plan on continuing to do at least one community outreach activity per month in my role as Supreme Court Justice in an ongoing effort to bring transparency to the function of the Supreme Court and the judiciary in general.

3)  Expand my mentoring program for new lawyers.

4)  I’m motivated to declutter my home in response to an uptick in need by not-for-profit organizations for donations.

One of her most fervent hopes for 2024 is “that the voters of Cook County recognize my dedication and commitment as a Supreme Court Justice and vote to keep me on the court.” She also hopes for a “significant reduction in gun violence and car jackings in our beautiful city and an end to the wars between Russia and Ukraine, Hamas and Israel.”

1)  Cook at home more. I need more veggies. I hope a new air fryer will do the trick. Who wants to come over for dinner?

2)  Get organized. Have you seen my closets? 2024 is the year I hope to declutter and purge a bit.

3)  Work less. Play more. You know the saying. (I don’t need much willpower for this one)

4)    Don’t waste time on people who don’t reciprocate your love, effort and energy.

1) Don't make New Year's resolutions-make New Day resolutions. Every morning you wake up is like winning the lottery of life. Spend your winnings wisely, as tomorrow is promised to none of us

2)   Remember that your lifelines are more important than the headlines. Go within and you'll never go without.

2) Give it time.

3) Be grateful.

4) Exude kindness.

5) Let it go.

6) Don't compare.

7) Take responsibility.

8) Embrace change.

9) Cultivate resilience.

10) See the light.

900 Shops' Illuminate 900

'Tis the season to be dazzled, and what better way to embrace the holiday spirit than by immersing yourself in the enchanting world of the 900 Shops' Illuminate 900 event? Nestled in the heart of Chicago's Magnificent Mile, this festive extravaganza once again turned the shopping experience into a winter wonderland of lights, laughter

and festive visuals. Illuminate 900 is planned and presented by the 900 North Michigan Avenue Shops. This mall is one of the most popular in Chicago and its event is billed as a “Holiday Love Letter to the City of Chicago.” The magical night encompassed all six floors with décor inspired by a winter wonderland. It is also Chicago’s top holiday fundraiser for Make- IMG_1701A-Wish Illinois. Each year, the experience features a 54-foot tree where children and adults alike feel the wonder of Christmas. Revelers young and old don their holiday finest to attend the party. Kids line up to decorate sugar cookies while grown-ups toast the season with champagne and cups of cheer. The evening included larger-than-life photo

Partygoers were seen snapping photos with Rockettes-like dancers and Toy Soldiers (by ZZAZZ Productions), a singing Angel with fantastical, oversized wings, The Real Elf, The Grinch and, of course, Santa!  The culmination of the storybook evening centered around the tree-lighting. The event raised funds to help this nonprofit grant wishes to children facing challenging health circumstances – the true spirit of Christmas. Participating nonprofits and entertainers included Ballet Chicago (that performed excerpts from the fabled holiday classic “The Nutcracker”); The Real Elf (who was on hand spreading cheer and taking “Elfies”); The Grinch (from Broadway in Chicago); Forward Momentum (a contemporary dance company); Beatmix drum corps; Sur La Table (provided a sugar cookie decorating activation); and Bubbles Academy (that provided a craft-making workshop). Light bites and cocktails were served on all 6 levels. If you missed it, mark your calendars now so you can join in next year! _______________________________________________________________________

This year, Eversight celebrated its 25th anniversary gala at the Peninsula on Friday, Oct. 13, although the date certainly wasn’t “unlucky” for this wonderful fundraiser! Nearly 275 partygoers donned creative masks and attire to enjoy an inspiring night that supported the organization’s “gift of sight” mission and deserving honorees, John Robak (2023 Person of

The beautiful décor by Tamar Productions (and Kehoe Designs who created the dramatic lobby bar area), made it a night to remember. Guests were greeted at the door by a performance artist from ZZAZZ Productions who was dressed from head-to-toe in a sparkling silver disco-ball catsuit and the excitement built from there. The lobby was filled

NutThe Joffrey Ballet's critically acclaimed reimagined classic, The Nutcracker by two-time Tony Award®-winning choreographer Christopher Wheeldon, returns to the Lyric Opera House, 20 North Upper Wacker Drive, in 25 performances, December 2 – 27. Set in Chicago's World's Fair in 1893, Wheeldon's The Nutcracker highlights the rich cultural heritage of Chicago and the wonder of the season. This is one of my favorite productions by The Joffrey as it truly captures the spirit of the season and the best part, it's set in our own home town. A truly beautiful show in every respect. A must-see. (For tickets and more details, please click here!)

One of my favorite writers, Michael Sneed at the Sun-Times, writes a gratitude column every year around Thanksgiving. It's touched me so much that I found myself clipping and

saving her articles. In past years, with some prodding from Oprah (and her love of gratitude journals), I decided to tackle some gratitude musings of my own. It's really a Imageslesson in self-reflection and a look back at all the things that has made us who we are. It's also an acknowledgement of the goodness in your life. Scientists have found that grateful people manage stress better and live healthier lives. Maybe after you read my column here, you will be inspired to write one of your own. This Thanksgiving, more than in years past, seems like a good time to start. I hope you’re surrounded by family and friends who seem like family.

Love, as always,

The evening, hosted by Cynthia Rowley and Nigel Barker, honored Chicago fashion designer Maria Pinto, while spotlighting rising luminaries that included Ajovang, Lola Elan, Production Mode and Sheila Rashid on the runway. The event was a great success in every way and made for one exciting night in the Windy City. Honoree Maria Pinto's exceptional contributions to Chicago fashion, including designing for nationally recognized leaders like Michelle Obama and Oprah Winfrey, were lauded. Her collection encompassed signature couture pieces from over the years, coupled with looks from her latest M2057 collection. The finale piece brought gasps from the crowd as an elegant model sashayed down the runway in a floor-length neon yellow, flowing gown. The evening unfolded with a pre-reception that highlighted three Chicago-based accessory designers, followed by the runway presentation and a post-party. The accessory designers who stole the spotlight were Il Fratellino (footwear by Zac Rodriguez and Brian Atwood), Viviana Langhoff (jewelry) and

Priscilla Presley celebrating her birthday at Conagra (Jon Harris).

Priscilla Presley swept into town recently and captured the hearts of all she met here in the Windy City. She came to Chicago for her one-woman show, “An Evening with Priscilla Presley,” where she shared her memories of her life and Elvis at the Des Plaines Theatre on Sunday

but, thanks to her longtime friend, Jimmy Place, she got to experience so much more.

1)“If Elvis knew how many people came out today to hear his story/our story, he wouldn’t believe it because he honestly thought, when he passed, that everyone would forget about him so this warm reception brings tears to my eyes.” (2) “Elvis always wanted to do more serious movies, but the Colonel was always more focused on getting the money for the

The song was written in one night. (5) About the supposed rift between her and her granddaughter Riley Keough. “All the things you read in the papers about my granddaughter Riley and me are a lie! We are very close.

This all came from a very jealous guy.” (6) One of her favorite pieces of Elvis memorabilia that she owned was his ivory-handled walking stick. It was stolen by her houseman and his wife and taken to France. “I was duped by this couple. I had no idea they had a record, I

I always feel his presence whenever I visit. It’s almost frightening, I get a chill, and love feeling close to him.” (8) Pricilla appeared in three Naked Gun movies with O.J. Simpson.

Onesti

Ron Onesti moderated the Q&A at the DesPlaines Theatre.

Onesti asked, “Did he do it?” Priscilla replied, “I knew his wife Nicole and she did write a note saying, ‘if anything happened to her, OJ did it.’ I do believe that, absolutely. I knew him and saw his temper. In fact, I was dating a guy, Michael Edwards a while back, and he told me (because I was filming a movie with OJ) that he used to date Nicole’s sister. And

one night at a party, he was talking to Nicole when OJ came up to him, lifted him off the floor by his neck and said, “If you ever f-cking talk to Nicole again, I will kill you.”

Sa

Priscilla onstage–a fabulous video spotlighted highlights of her life with Elvis.

As you can see, she was very open and honest. The Q&A was followed by more questions from the audience. She shared that “she didn’t think she would ever get over losing Elvis.” Dolly Parton shared in a recent TV special that Priscilla told her as she and Elvis were leaving the courthouse following their divorce (and holding hands) that he was singing “I will always love you” to her. She is a gracious and elegant woman; genteel one would say. We wish her well and hope she returns to the Windy City soon!

The hotly anticipated grand opening of Le Select, the French brasserie that is the newest addition to Kevin Boehm and Rob Katz’s expanding culinary empire,

took place on January 25. Thanks to the throng of A-listers and foodies, the restaurant hummed with excitement for this handsome spot that will soon be on everybody’s Hot List. The River North restaurant at 504 N. Wells was formerly the Hudson, SushiSamba and lastly Bottled Blond. It is awash is calming shades of neutral browns and reds with scattered greenery and large, spacious booths. On this opening night, guests were greeted with champagne, an open bar and a lite buffet. On the first floor, the spacious dining room features row upon row of arching lights, which was reminiscent of lighting in

this is definitely apparent in this 12,000-square-foot-space with an additional 2,000-sq-ft of event space. The Boka Boys have tapped Chicago native Chef Daniel Rose to help with this big endeavor. Rose rose to prominence with award-winning restaurants in Paris and New York. (This dynamic trio will soon be opening another eatery inside L.A.’s Hoxton Hotel, according to Eater). The Le Select menu is extensive with specialties of

Well, that was exactly the party that beloved Chef Art Smith and his husband/artist Jesus Salgueiro threw on January 26. A cold, snowy night didn’t keep the lines of cars from pulling up to the valet in Kenwood to make their arrivals. From the front door, all throughout the house, there were fantastic colorful decorations for this very special New Year soiree. Newlyweds Derrick Joseph Taylor and William Scott Ellsworth.

When you think of fairytale weddings, do you have one that comes to mind? Well, on January 21 in the Gold Coast Room of the Drake Hotel, Chuck and I experienced one of the most magical weddings we've ever seen. Popular event

The room was decorated in grand, understated elegance with the florals, crystal, vases, chairs, bars and even the silver reflecting carpet leading to the ceremony, all matching the existing decor–brilliant! There were IMG_6181absolutely no mistakes, no missteps, nothing that didn't fit perfectly in that fantastical dreamscape. All of the wedding party was dressed in black and white, carrying long bouquets of white freesia. Even the couple's dachshunds wore outfits that matched the IMG_6204wedding party– black organza with brilliant, sparkling brooches on top. At the podium, the wedding party gathered round Derrick and Scott as they exchanged their vows. Derrick said, "You acknowledge my strengths and accept all of my faults, allowing me to be broken in your arms — the safest place I've ever been. You make me want to be a better person every single day. You were so worth

also adhered to an old tradition, especially popular in farming communities, of donning crowns which symbolize power and dignity. Derrick and Scott were surrounded with love from both sets of parents as well as Scott's daughter Madison Ellsworth. Following the ceremony, guest enjoyed champagne, cocktails and delicious hors d'oeuvres. A darling "Ring the Bell" station supplied guests with the signature cocktail of the night through a closed curtain when they rang a bell. It went off throughout the reception, as you can imagine! LOL! For the seated dinner, guests enjoyed the music of the always fabulous Tina Jenkins (TJ) Crawley, a string quartet and more. It was truly one of the most beautiful and touching ceremonies we've had the honor of witnessing. Long may you love Derrick and Scott!

The celebrity chef will be opening Ramsay's Kitchen, just the third in the nation, at 39 W. For all those Depositphotos_61663845-stock-photo-infinite-gratitudeorganizations and advertisers out there, I would appreciate you considering advertising/sponsorship opportunities to help me further expand our reach to even more people in your networks. So, as you review and allocate advertising/marketing resources for 2023, please consider becoming one my exclusive digital advertisers to receive special shout outs and mentions for your organization’s fundraising events, galas and latest news.

It’s because of YOU that I get to do what I love every single day. I send you all my deepest thanks for your continued support, loyalty and the great pitches and photos you send me so I can continue featuring the many Windy City events and causes that we all love and want to know more about!

Love, as always,

Candace
