time. The Curio and the 21c Museum Hotel Chicago presented  “A Celebration of Chicago Style” on May 31. The evening, hosted by Cynthia Rowley and Nigel Barker, honored Chicago fashion designer Maria Pinto, while spotlighting rising luminaries that included Ajovang, Lola Elan, Production Mode and Sheila Rashid on the runway. The event was a great success in every way and made for one exciting night in the Windy City. Honoree Maria Pinto's exceptional contributions to Chicago fashion, including designing for nationally recognized leaders like Michelle Obama and Oprah Winfrey, were lauded. Her collection encompassed signature couture pieces from over the years, coupled with looks from her latest M2057 collection. The finale piece brought gasps from the crowd as an elegant model sashayed down the runway in a floor-length neon yellow, flowing gown. The evening unfolded with a pre-reception that highlighted three Chicago-based accessory designers, followed by the runway presentation and a post-party. The accessory designers who stole the spotlight were Il Fratellino (footwear by Zac Rodriguez and Brian Atwood), Viviana Langhoff (jewelry) and

Priscilla Presley celebrating her birthday at Conagra (Jon Harris).

Priscilla Presley swept into town recently and captured the hearts of all she met here in the Windy City. She came to Chicago for her one-woman show, “An Evening with Priscilla Presley,” where she shared her memories of her life and Elvis at the Des Plaines Theatre on Sunday

but, thanks to her longtime friend, Jimmy Place, she got to experience so much more.

1)“If Elvis knew how many people came out today to hear his story/our story, he wouldn’t believe it because he honestly thought, when he passed, that everyone would forget about him so this warm reception brings tears to my eyes.” (2) “Elvis always wanted to do more serious movies, but the Colonel was always more focused on getting the money for the

usually, didn’t even know where he was.” (4) Elvis favorite song? “If I Could Dream,” because that’s exactly how he felt, he dreamed of a better world. He admired Martin Luther King and his mission. The song was written in one night. (5) About the supposed rift between her and her granddaughter Riley Keough. “All the things you read in the papers about my granddaughter Riley and me are a lie! We are very close.

This all came from a very jealous guy.” (6) One of her favorite pieces of Elvis memorabilia that she owned was his ivory-handled walking stick. It was stolen by her houseman and his wife and taken to France. “I was duped by this couple. I had no idea they had a record, I

I always feel his presence whenever I visit. It’s almost frightening, I get a chill, and love feeling close to him.” (8) Pricilla appeared in three Naked Gun movies with O.J. Simpson.

Onesti

Ron Onesti moderated the Q&A at the DesPlaines Theatre.

Onesti asked, “Did he do it?” Priscilla replied, “I knew his wife Nicole and she did write a note saying, ‘if anything happened to her, OJ did it.’ I do believe that, absolutely. I knew him and saw his temper. In fact, I was dating a guy, Michael Edwards a while back, and he told me (because I was filming a movie with OJ) that he used to date Nicole’s sister. And

one night at a party, he was talking to Nicole when OJ came up to him, lifted him off the floor by his neck and said, “If you ever f-cking talk to Nicole again, I will kill you.”

Sa

Priscilla onstage–a fabulous video spotlighted highlights of her life with Elvis.

As you can see, she was very open and honest. The Q&A was followed by more questions from the audience. She shared that “she didn’t think she would ever get over losing Elvis.” Dolly Parton shared in a recent TV special that Priscilla told her as she and Elvis were leaving the courthouse following their divorce (and holding hands) that he was singing “I will always love you” to her. She is a gracious and elegant woman; genteel one would say. We wish her well and hope she returns to the Windy City soon!

Fans and friends came out in droves Saturday and Sunday to enjoy vintage treasure hunting from nearly 200 dealers, live entertainment, food trucks and more. After suffering through Covid, Sally told me she was “about ready to chuck it” but, after a forced rest, she

crowded into the restaurant to join in for the Worldwide Toast to Harry Caray honoring the 25th anniversary of his passing. This year’s theme, Re-Elect Harry Mayor of Rush Street, intended to “reaffirm forever that Harry is the one and only Mayor of Rush Street and that there will never be another.” Harry was “elected” Mayor of Rush Street on August 24, 1980.

Numerous establishments around Rush Street campaigned for him and he won the election in a landslide. Mayor Jane Byrne acknowledged his victory by declaring that Harry was the Mayor of Rush Street and that she was the Mayor of the rest of Chicago. Twenty-five years later, fans came out in force to “vote” to ensure that Harry maintains his “crown.”  Comedian Jeff Garlin showed up claiming to be

Harry’s “campaign manager.” Former Cubs pitcher Ryan Dempster appeared as Harry. (Ryan is known almost as much for his illustrious baseball career as he is for his amazing impersonation of Harry!) As guests filed in, they were gifted with a souvenir pair of

Harry’s oversized glasses and white T-shirts emblazoned with “Vote Harry Caray Mayor of Rush Street.” You could hardly squeeze into the dining room as there was so much press setting up cameras, all trained on the podium where the The Score’s Parkins & Spiegel team were positioned and where the toast would take place. Everyone in the room was handed a bright red and white can of

The program opened with Chicago Cubs’ legend Ryne Sandberg asking the crowd to raise their “cans” and sing “Take Me Out to the Ballgame.” Then, Chicago Board of Elections Commissioner William Kresse and Bill Kurtis (The Voice) announced the voting results. A two-peat for PALM BEACH – Happiness is found under a palm tree. It's where you can keep "palm" and carry on. We were so lucky to be able to return to Palm Beach in March. Just seeing the highway sign, "This way to

The older I get, the harder this weather is to take. I know when Spring arrives, I will feel so different but for now…..eeks. Nowadays, the Palm Beach area seems to attract a lot of Chicagoans. On this recent trip, we enjoyed a great dinner with Paula Fasseas (PAWS Chicago founder), Suzie

Jimmy John Liautaud (R) with his beloved late dad, Jim P. Liautaud.

Every restaurant dreams of having satisfied customers but Gibsons Chicago Steakhouse could never have expected the level of gratitude shown by one loyal customer on a recent cold, windy night. on this night, in honor of his dad, Jimmy and son Freddy decided to give something back to the people who had been so kind to his father throughout the years. He left a tip of $100,000 to be divided among the staff. Jimmy John Liautaud founded Jimmy John’s in 1983 at age 19, with the first shop in Charleston, Illinois. He had graduated at the bottom of his class so, after high school, he had two

Up until my teenage years, family life was very stressful due to serious financial losses,” Liautaud said. Well, he has since corrected this situation in a big way. Jimmy John’s Sandwich Shops now has 2,634 franchises across 45 states. Jimmy, your dad taught you well. Having business smarts is well and good, but having a big heart is even better.

Love and Happy Easter to my favorite Peeps!

That's all for this week! I hope you're enjoyed this jam-packed edition of Candid Candace and I hope you and your loved ones have a wonderful Easter weekend. For my closing video this week,I couldn't resist sharing an adorable German Netto ad that explores the origins of the Easter Bunny.

The original idea of the Easter Bunny, or Osterhase in German (literally Easter Hare), was in fact a very German creation dating back to the Middle Ages. By the 17th century, the Easter Bunny would bring eggs for children to discover on Easter. And the creature bringing treats wasn’t always a hare: there was also an Easter Fox, Stork and Crane in various regions before the hare became mainstream. But why a bunny? A big reason for this is that given their reputation for frequent reproduction, bunnies represent fertility and new life, just like eggs do, which are big themes of springtime and the Christian belief in Jesus' resurrection.

We have much to be grateful for. Enjoy!

Love, as always,

Candace
