EXCITING ECHOES OF SUMMER, WHISPERS OF FALL

I hope you've missed me? I know I've missed you! Who knew these passing seasons would explode with so many things to do and events to cover?! I'm gonna catch you up here now. In the meantime, I hope you've enjoyed the magic of summer like we have. My friend Bonnie Spurlock shared a beautiful water-color by artist Glenn Galan titled "Fireflies on a Summer Night" that perfectly captures the nostalgia of summers' past. (Glenn's website is a treasure trove of images like this that I highly recommend you check out.)

I'm amazed at how much the latest events and fundraisers have stepped up their decor, planning and fundraising efforts. I'm referring to The Joffrey Ballet's "Midsummer Celebration"; MCA's ArtEdge party; Steppenwolf's starry night; the Hippocratic Cancer Research Foundation fashion show and so much more. If you weren't able to attend, not to worry, I will tell you what you missed! That's what I'm here for. 🙂 ______________________________________________________________________

The party began in the lobby where a buffet offered a mile-long stretch of treats that included sushi, hamburgers, pasta, hors d’oeuvres, everything you can imagine- all served under a canopy of trees bedecked in twinkling lights. Kudos to co-chairs Robin Loewenberg Tebbe and Meredith-Bluhm Wolf and board chair Cari Sacks for “bringin’ it” – the crowd was enthralled and not a soul left the tent during the performance that included artists from Tease Productions and Sasha Colby, RuPaul Drag Race 2023 winner. An area for photo opps was completely filled with a variety of flowers and an old-fashioned swing like the kind you would find on an oak tree in the backyard. Guests came dressed according to the theme with our friend Brian Smith (Joffrey Chief Marketing Officer) winning top outfit for his stunning flower hat that would’ve made Anne Boleyn jealous. Other guests wore little fairy wings and Derek Drilon, a Joffrey dancer, was expertly styled by Galan Styling (David Murga) with a huge peach flower perched on the side of his head over a black and white brocade jacket. Torchio Pasta Bar, 738 N. Wells St.

The Torchio Pasta Bar, nestled in a 19th century building at 738 N. Wells St., has been a beloved culinary gem for years, and its allure only continues to grow. As a recent

convert, I'm finally experiencing the buzz firsthand, spurred on by friends who couldn't stop raving. “You have to meet the owner Bill, he’s a real charmer,” they’d say, or “Sit at the bar and have Eric the bartender wait on you, he’s fabulous.” The clincher for me was the whisper, “It’s super hard to get a reservation.” Challenge accepted. There's something

undeniably enticing about an exclusive spot and, let's face it, I'm a magnet for a club that won't let me in. The reservation rules are strict: a group of four can linger for two hours, while a duo gets an hour and a half. Plus, it costs $40 upfront to secure a booking. But the effort is worth it. Torchio Pasta Bar's history is as rich as its flavors. The story began with a family tradition: Bill Varley, the chef and owner, would

make fresh pasta with his niece Maggie every Christmas Eve at his Long Island home and loved the process. After Bill and his wife Janice fell in love with Chicago during business trips, they knew this vibrant city would become their home and eventually their vision of a restaurant would be born there as well. Their search for the perfect location came true and led them to a vacant storefront in a building from the

early 1900s. It was love at first sight. Bill and Janice meticulously designed the space, revealing century-old brickwork and creating a chic copper bar and cozy dining area filled with period details. Picture yourself enjoying homemade pasta with a crisp Pinot Grigio on a snowy day inside or basking in the summer sun on their charming patio. An antique hand-crank pasta press, or torchio,

hangs above the bar, a nod to tradition. Now, let's dive into the cuisine. Beyond the welcoming ambiance and warm

hospitality, Torchio offers a
truly authentic Italian dining experience. All the pasta, except for the gluten-free options (which are 5imported from Italy), is made in-house. Many menu items are cherished family recipes, like the beloved Giovanni’s Bolognese. This dish features handmade tagliatelle lightly bathed in Bolognese sauce, all nestled in a Parmesan basket. It's divine. Another standout is the Fresh Vegetable Pappardelle, a delightful medley of pappardelle, asparagus, peas, zucchini, and yellow squash in a lemon butter sauce, topped with Pecorino Romano. For appetizers, the meatball dish (beef and veal in house-made tomato sauce) and the fried artichoke hearts are must-tries. End your meal on a sweet note with Jolene’s Ligurian Olive Oil Cake or the Tiramisu. Hats off to Torchio Pasta Bar—securing that reservation was well worth it. We'll definitely be back!

Huge congrats to Eli's Cheesecake Company, Maureen and Marc Schulman! Wherever history is being made, you can bet there will be an Eli's Cheesecake to celebrate! They created two 1,000 lb. cheesecakes for The Democratic National Convention welcome party. The cake was decorated with all 50 state placards, and the crowd loved it! In fact, Convention goers consumed over 5,400 lbs. of Eli's Cheesecake, Chicago's favorite dessert, by the time the Convention was over. CHI-TOWN CHEERS: HERE’S TO A BOLDER, BRIGHTER NEW YEAR

Happy 2024! I think we are all hoping for a bigger, better year. I have some resolutions/goals on my wish list that I’m hoping to achieve. Number one is to spend more time with you! I don’t Shutterstock_2405245867want to miss sharing any nonprofit news that, to me, is like the engine that helps Chicago remain the City of Big

Headshot 2023

Cheers! Here's to YOU, I'm so grateful!

Shoulders. I pray for more kindness in the world but all I can manage is my end of things so I hope to be more  empathetic and give where I can. I hope to be able to spend more time with friends too. I’ve sadly missed out on so many friendly get-togethers and I would like to see this change in the New Year. I pray for continued good health for my loved ones and thank God for my blessings. I’m so appreciative of all who read Candid Candace, especially those who have been with me from the very beginning, in 2008! I’m grateful for my advertisers who believe in me as well as all those who send me items they would like to see included. I love shining a light on Chicago, its events and the people who make it great, like you.

There were so many holiday parties! I still think we are making up for lost time after Covid. I especially loved

celebrating Nikki Friar. Beloved by all, she will returning to her Scottish homeland in February. The room was packed at Marchesa for this early send-off with Nikki's dear friend, D.J. Madrid Perry playing the hottest beats- no one wanted to leave the dance floor! Her friend/boss Kathryn Alvera read a sweet letter from her friends before an amazing cake that looked exactly like a Louis Vuitton suitcase (complete with an edible passport on top) was cut. Nikki made a dramatic entrance down the staircase dressed in a hot pink, hi-low dress with a tulle edging that brought oohs and ahhs from the loving crowd. Even though she's not leaving until Feb., Chicago already feels like it has a piece missing.

Sherry Lea Holson hosted her annual Christmas Extravaganza at Knollwood Country Club in Lake Forest recently with around 150 of her closest friends. Her parties are always wrapped in kindness, with invitees to Facetune_15-12-2023-22-55-43this event encouraged to bring a toy, this year, for the kids at The Chicago Lighthouse, a nonprofit that is near and dear to her heart. (She was the organization's honoree in 2022). Ladies mixed and mingled in the club's beautifully decorated rooms before the lunch chimes rang. Then, all the festively dressed guests moved to the ballroom, which was truly a "White Christmas." Sherry had the room decorated all in white from the table linens to the ornaments on the tree, it was a beautiful vision.

Long tables displayed exquisitely wrapped ornaments for the ornament swap and gifts for the kiddos overflowed under the tree. One of the hallmarks of Sherry's party is

always the "table skits" where table-mates huddle together in private spaces to choreograph a skit performed to a chosen Christmas song. I've been lucky to sit with professional choreographer Tracey Tarantino DiBuono every year, which in my opinion, makes us an automatic winner! Tina Weller offered an inspiring toast to Sherry and, in one skit, professional singer Irene Mojica, performed the Christmas song herself for her table skit. In the past, Sherry has selected a variety of charities to receive the bounty of toys. She truly walks the walk in defining the spirit of Christmas. Cheers to you Sherry and congrats on another wonderful afternoon of camaraderie, holiday cheer and giving back.

Bears coach

Bears Coach Matt Eberflus beside a David Yarrow photograph.

Coming off a Bears win on a Monday night, the mood was celebratory at Art + Athletics, An Evening with World Renowned Artist & Storyteller David Yarrow recently. Chicago Bears Coach Matt Eberflus was presented with the Iron Horse Award, named in honor of Lou Gehrig, who battled ALS, just like Matt's dad, Stan Eberflus, Jr. “It was an honor for our charity to be the recipient of this wonderful evening. ALS United Greater Chicago is forever grateful to the Bears organization, Coach Eberflus, Arica Hilton and David Yarrow. It’s an evening we will never forget,” said Julie Sharpe, President and CEO of ALS United Greater Chicago. Lou Canellis, Fox 32’s sports

photograph he took of a bear in Iliamna, Alaska, to the guests for $2,000 each. Yarrow was signing, framing and sending them to all who made purchases. “The event raised over $100,000 thanks to Mr. Yarrow’s generosity and incredible talent. We are overwhelmed by it all,” continued Ms. Sharpe. The Iron Horse Award is given to the individual who displays the exact characteristics Lou Gehrig, the original Iron Horse, displayed on and off the field. Lou Gehrig was known for his humility, courage, strength, love for his family and a willingness and desire to stand back in the shadows while being part of an incredible team. He was a man’s man, who spoke the way he lived his life and not through words. The mission of the ALS United Chicago is to foster bold research initiatives, advance national and state advocacy efforts and provide comprehensive care and support to individuals and families affected by ALS. Dark wood, dimmed lighting and plush leather banquettes will create an atmosphere of understated luxury. A vintage-inspired cocktail menu, curated by expert mixologists, will add an extra layer of nostalgia to the experience. The restaurant’s name refers to Chris Maloyan, representing the butcher, and Chef Ramos as the bear. The space was formerly the Mayan Palace Mexican restaurant. With 2024 upon us and, as with everyone, it’s time for reflection. The past year has been both good and bad, with the good winning out, fortunately. First off, I feel that every day Shutterstock_2406742309we’re above ground is a good one so there’s that. Secondly, any day that my husband is happy and healthy is the best day of my life. Everything else is really just gravy. I never like thinking like a pessimist, but our political situation just sucks, and I’ll leave it at that. I Gratitude miss the days when political coverage was few and far between. Now I rarely watch television. On a brighter note, Chicago has never seemed more vibrant. Mind you, I’m looking at this from a writer’s perspective and I’ve never found so much to cover than in this past year. It’s almost like everyone is trying to make up for lost time since Covid. The nonprofits are doing well, with many having record-breaking events. The pop-up experiences have never been more prevalent, it seems like there’s one on every corner now but I’m not complaining. Chicago’s rich holiday offerings have included an abundance of twinkling lights, beautiful decor and a Santa in every store. And, even though Macy’s décor doesn’t come close to the days of Marshall Field’s, at least they’re still trying.

As far as NY resolutions, I think my friend and celebrity chef Jaime Laurita said it best, “I want to be more SELFish” and what he means by this is doing more things YOU want to do and not because you’re trying to make someone else happy.  I was curious as to what resolutions, hopes and dreams some CHI-lebrities might have for the coming year, so I quizzed them. Check out their thoughtful answers below!

people in Chicago is like no other. She is truly a politician who is looking out for us with her tax refunds to homeowners, ‘random acts of kindness,’ community outreach and so much more. Her hopes for 2024 are:

1)  That no one I love dies.

2)  That Mayor Brandon Johnson gets his act together.

3)  That the happy people in the mountains of Greece never come to know the evils of city living.

since 2007, has brought this award-winning company to ever greater heights. His New Year’s resolutions include:

1)  Giving more time to my family.

2)  Finding peace, understanding and tolerance across the world.

3)  Take care of The Joffrey Ballet and our exciting year ahead, both here in Chicago, across the U.S. and beyond.

Chef Jaime Laurita.

Celebrity Chef Jaime Laurita has been a force since he first started cooking for stars like Madonna, the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Aerosmith, to name a few. He is one of 11 kids born into a proud working-class Italian family. His sister, Caroline Manzo, was a Real Housewife of New Jersey. He and his husband Rich Lane were even married on the show. Here are his resolutions and hopes for a New Year:

1)   Practice putting myself in other people’s shoes to become even more giving.

2)   Mentor more children.

3)   Become more SELFish and allow me to love myself more.

4)   My hopes for 2024 are that the city of Chicago can get a handle on crime and the migrant situation. I’m praying that the world can come together politically.

countries, 47 states and more than 1300 cities). Nan has much to be grateful for as her son Keenan recently married the love of his life, Sophie Casey. But besides this happy news, she also hopes for:

1)   In our splintered world of conflict and turmoil, I want to focus on pushing harder to radiate energy, beauty, and unity into the world through dance.

2)   I also want to celebrate every day as a gift, full of positivity, kindness and love.

3)   And lastly, I am committed to writing it all down every day in my beautiful new journal gifted to me by a dear friend. I have much to be grateful for.

4)   For 2024, I hope the world finds balance and embraces all, despite differences. I hope everyone can lead with their hearts – not hatred, destruction and violence.

1)   Generally, I don’t make resolutions but instead goals. In 2024, I intend to reach more people and share the power of stories, especially through my book  recommendations. I intend to grow my mentoring program “Stories Matter” (professional female writers mentoring the next generation of female storytellers).

2)  I intend to spread the word and worth about pigs. Having rescued several, I hope to share their intelligence and charm so people would stop eating them.

3)  My hopes for 2024 are for more adventure, laughter and learning new things and to connect with more like-minded folks! Blessings to everyone for a grand 2024!

She was elected president of the Chicago Bar Assoc. where she became the first Black woman to lead the nation’s largest municipal bar association. Her New Year’s Eve resolutions are:

1)  I plan to get back to my routine of focusing on physical fitness including jogging and exercising 5 times per week.

2)  I also plan on continuing to do at least one community outreach activity per month in my role as Supreme Court Justice in an ongoing effort to bring transparency to the function of the Supreme Court and the judiciary in general.

4)  I’m motivated to declutter my home in response to an uptick in need by not-for-profit organizations for donations.

One of her most fervent hopes for 2024 is “that the voters of Cook County recognize my dedication and commitment as a Supreme Court Justice and vote to keep me on the court.” She also hopes for a “significant reduction in gun violence and car jackings in our beautiful city and an end to the wars between Russia and Ukraine, Hamas and Israel.”

1)  Cook at home more. I need more veggies. I hope a new air fryer will do the trick. Who wants to come over for dinner?

2)  Get organized. Have you seen my closets? 2024 is the year I hope to declutter and purge a bit.

3)  Work less. Play more. You know the saying. (I don’t need much willpower for this one)

4)    Don’t waste time on people who don’t reciprocate your love, effort and energy.

1) Don't make New Year's resolutions-make New Day resolutions. Every morning you wake up is like winning the lottery of life. Spend your winnings wisely, as tomorrow is promised to none of us

2)   Remember that your lifelines are more important than the headlines. Go within and you'll never go without.

9) Cultivate resilience.

10) See the light.

But, as exciting as this event was, it didn’t compare with being in the pit for Chicago’s first ever NASCAR Chicago Street Race. I won’t lie though; I was initially a naysayer. When I first heard

the news that NASCAR was coming to Chicago, I thought what the hell. I didn’t think this city was the “right place” for this type of sport. I remember all the kids in my small hometown were huge fans but Chicago, the big, sophisticated city?  My first encounter with NASCAR was at Steak 48 earlier

in the week, where a special event was hosted by the NASCAR Foundation and the restaurant to benefit the Greater Chicago Food Depository. There, I had the privilege of interviewing four of the race’s stars: Rickey Stenhouse Jr, Kyle Busch, Ross Chastain and Harrison Burton. After I quizzed these patient gentlemen, I acquired a newfound respect for the sport. I learned some of the intricate strategies that went into winning and how they

Their passion made me passionate too. The following day, I attended my first NASCAR race. This one was the Cup Series Grant Park 220, a 220 mile race with 100 laps on the same course. The seven 90-degree turns were a worry for all

the drivers with some crashes and scrapes as they tried to hug the walls which were closer than in any other race. Anyway, let’s talk about the “pit experience.” Each pit team works as one, their moves are synchronized, and they know what the driver is thinking before he even says it. It was breathtaking to see all the devotion and dedication that each team goes into trying to make their driver the winner.  The shaking of heads when a lap wasn’t going well, the

viewer and he said, the “rumble of the ground as the cars move onto the racetrack.” And he is so right…..you feel it all through your body. You become a part of the experience in a very visceral way. In the end, Cole Custer, won the Xfinity Series race (even though it was cut short due to rain) and Shane van Gisbergen won the inaugural Chicago Street Race, the Grant Park 220. As you can tell, I am a fan. BUT, I do understand the cons to this race as well. There were many, many valid complaints. The biggest for me was how little the city got paid for this event, $500,000 permit fee compared to the rent bill for Lollapalooza, which was $8 million (according to this Sun-Times article). So there's that…..

two weekends (July 8, 9 and again on July 14, 15, 16) and includes Banksy’s original and studio works, salvaged street artworks, all within a never-before-seen immersive installation. The experience showcases the mystique and cultural impact of one of the most sought-after artists of our time, Banksy. One of the show’s producers, Brittany, was on hand to show off an original Banksy she and her partner, Britt (who is also with the visual art company LUMIO Studio), had purchased during their recent visit to Bethlehem, Palestine. They stayed at the Walled-Off Hotel, an independent visual arts hotel set up and financed by the artist. (The hotel is also a popular subject in his work). The artwork they purchased includes an original piece of brick IMG_4784 IMG_4792from the wall and will be on display at the exhibition. “To me, Banksy is a hero. He’s someone I look up to. Obviously, no one knows who he is but he’s super selfless and everything he does is for someone else. My favorite piece, the M.V. Louise Michel, is an active French Navy war vessel that he bought and refitted as an emergency vehicle. It is actively sailing the Mediterranean, saving people’s lives to this day. He also has an organization that gives people a second chance in life,” Brittany shared. The boat’s mission is “to uphold maritime law and rescue anyone in peril without prejudice.” Host venue for the exhibit, The Morgan Arts Complex, is one of the newest art-focused venues in the Bridgeport neighborhood of Chicago with a mission of supporting culture and the arts within the celebrated south Chicago neighborhood, located at 3622 S. Ron Onesti moderated the Q&A at the DesPlaines Theatre.

Onesti asked, “Did he do it?” Priscilla replied, “I knew his wife Nicole and she did write a note saying, ‘if anything happened to her, OJ did it.’ I do believe that, absolutely. I knew him and saw his temper. In fact, I was dating a guy, Michael Edwards a while back, and he told me (because I was filming a movie with OJ) that he used to date Nicole’s sister. And

Priscilla onstage–a fabulous video spotlighted highlights of her life with Elvis.

As you can see, she was very open and honest. The Q&A was followed by more questions from the audience. She shared that “she didn’t think she would ever get over losing Elvis.” Dolly Parton shared in a recent TV special that Priscilla told her as she and Elvis were leaving the courthouse following their divorce (and holding hands) that he was singing “I will always love you” to her. She is a gracious and elegant woman; genteel one would say. We wish her well and hope she returns to the Windy City soon!

Legendary Gibsons Bar & Steakhouse turns 30!

Legendary Rush Street hotspot, Gibsons Bar & Steakhouse, celebrated its 30th anniversary in grand style on April 24 during a luncheon that benefited Misericordia Heart of Mercy. An overflow crowd turned out to celebrate with Gibsons' principals Steve Lombardo, Hugo Ralli, John Colletti, Kathy O'Malley Piccone, Greg Horan and a host of regulars, longtime employees and loyal fans. The afternoon began with a

cocktail reception with passed hors d'oeuvres, followed by a 3-course meal with menu favorites like filet mignon, double baked potatoes, creamed spinach and macadamia turtle pie and carrot cake. Following lunch, Rick Kogan of the Chicago Tribune, hosted an hour-long retrospective panel

discussion with Gibsons' afore mentioned partners. It was a fascinating discussion that touched on the early days (when every pencil was counted and they had no take-home bags) to the heady, celeb-filled days (that are ongoing). Kathy shared a touching story of one of Mohammad Ali's last visits to the restaurant with tears in her eyes. She said Jack Nicholson told her NOT to protect his table from fans as he "needed all the love he

can get." Billy Joel, a restaurant favorite, was told there would be a 45 minute wait before Kathy looked up and realized who was requesting a table. He still chose to wait like a normal customer (loved this). And Colletti shared an hysterically funny story about the time sexy actress Sharon Stone called for a carry out. John got to do the honors himself and was

even offered a kiss of gratitude! I was surprised to learn how much input from customers inspired menu selections. Famed NFL quarterback and Chicago legend Sid Luckman was instrumental in deciding on the restaurant's signature desserts insisting they be big and bold. He even flew Steve to Miami to check out Wolfie's that is famous for over-sized servings. Still Steve wasn't convinced so Luckman had his driver pick up desserts from all over town to compare. The late Congressman Dan Rostenkowski had his wife Laverne give up her beloved coleslaw recipe and the famous Gibsons' ribs were

who worked for the Chicago Convention & Tourism Bureau), the Gibsons martini and the simple fact that they'd waited until the last minute to decide. The event upstairs was by-invite-only but tickets were offered at $100 each with all proceeds benefiting Misericordia, a nonprofit that supports over 600 children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. More than 300 people watched the panel discussion on screens set up downstairs at the restaurant so everyone could feel they were a part of the celebration. It was a thrill to relive the memories and see so many iconic photos as they scrolled on multiple screens throughout the event. Although, my fondest memory was getting engaged the day the restaurant opened and going there to celebrate, as we still do for every milestone (and just for fun too). Love and congrats Gibsons! You just keep getting better with age! 🙂

It was definitely not your grandma's gala and it was a pure delight! I think The Joffrey Ballet's UNGala (see video here!) was just what the doctor ordered and that it heralds winds of change in the event world. I love the idea of something unique and unexpected, especially since it seems like I've

gone to almost every party/gala/ball in town since 1974. Years ago, my friend Helen Melchior and I came up with a similar concept for the Joffrey, an event we named "Couture & Cocktails," which was a departure from their usual event fare. We offered a

fashion show experience along with White Castle hamburgers served on silver trays, all at unique venues, and so much more. For 7 years, it was the Joffrey's second largest fundraiser after its gala. These days, people in the know in the event planning world are learning that the word "gala" does not have the connotation they are

hoping their parties will have these days. I know of many who are removing the word "ball" or "gala" from their invite. Just recently, during a planning meeting for the Eversight Gift of Sight event (formerly gala), we decided to remove that word and replace it with "celebration." (Shameless plug here: Michael

Caputo and I are co-chairing this event again this year–with honoree Sherry Lea Holson–on October 24, details here). Times are a-changing and I think this word denotes a thing of the past, at least at this point in time. Partygoers are now looking for unique experiences for their charity dollars and I don't blame them, I am too. I remember when the Red Moon Theatre Company first came into being–I was blown away by its creativity. I saw things I'd never seen before and loved every minute of it. I wanted to be at any party that they were a part of. Sadly, they no

longer exist but I'm hoping something else will pop up along these lines like the Joffrey Ballet's UNGala did on April 12. This party had all of these elements and more for a fabulous, must-attend event, held for the first time at the Lyric Opera House (which will be the Joffrey's permanent home in 2020). I was on complete sensory overload, just like my first trip to Disneyland, and I loved every minute of it. Congrats to the creative co-chairs and Women's Board members Laura Kofoid and Coco Meers and to the company itself, led by artistic director Ashley Wheater and Greg Cameron, president/CEO. Just like the event, the company keeps pushing boundaries on what's expected, bringing brand new work to its delighted audiences on an ongoing basis. UNBelievable!

Final Throne Chicago,809 W. Evergreen. OMG!

The authenticity is astounding! Final Throne Chicago, a Game of Thrones-inspired pop-up party bar at 809 W. Evergreen, opened on April 20, and it is a must see if you're a fan of HBO's Game of Thrones. I'm a total geek for this show so this experience was like visiting Disneyland for

There, Daenerys and Khal Drogo greet you in full costume looking every inch the real characters they represent on TV.The main level houses the outstanding Hall of Faces, eerily detailed, where bartenders dressed as

The decor makes you feel like you're there–everything is bathed in red and very, very decadent. Loved, loved, loved it! The dungeon downstairs houses the wicked Night King, all 8 feet of him–another perfect photo opp. I'm telling you, I just about lost my mind here! Can you tell? Ocean Prime, awesome at 87 E. Wacker Drive.

Chicago seems to be exploding with new restaurants and, as much as this pleases me, it hasn't been so good for my waistline, yet, I soldiered on. We tried my favorite of the bunch (so far), Ocean Prime, a hot steakhouse and seafood restaurant located at 87 E. Wacker Drive on the 2nd floor of LondonHouse. From the elegant, chic decor to the delicious menu (created by executive chef Jason Shelley), the place was perfect in every way. A beautifully

Our server Heather was excellent and pointed out popular dishes like the variety of fish choices that ranged from blackened snapper to Florida grouper to Chilean sea bass, all prepared in a unique style by the chef. Sides were equally delicious and included smoked gouda tater tots, lobster mashed potatoes, parmesan truffle fries, white truffle caviar deviled eggs, goat cheese ravioli and so much more. Just for fun, Heather brought us a signature cocktail "Berries & Bubbles", a complicated concoction of Belvedere citrus vodka, marinated berries, fresh lemon and Domaine Chandon Brut, all bubbling over with dry ice and smoke. It was so cool! We can't wait to go back! Congratulations to GM Louis Morgan III, Crystal Lining (sales and event manager), Maureen DeLuca (dining room manager) and, of course Chef Jason. It was a winner–delightful experience in a magnificent setting! Ocean Prime has 16 locations across the country and is open for lunch and dinner. 312.428.4344.

I love this new idea and am behind it 100% (as a matter of fact, I'm already signed up). I sat down for a chat with its creator, Mark Willingham, at RL the other day and I loved what I heard. He was in town doing press for this new idea and was Untitledintroduced to me by the Tribune's Larry Wert, who also backs the platform. "We're interested in providing a safer, more transparent environment for both the talent and client," Willingham said. I think this is an idea whose time has come. Currently, the platform is available in L.A., NYC, Miami, Las Vegas, Atlanta, Houston, Dallas, San Diego, Seattle and now Chicago.
