Hi dear friends and welcome to Candid Candace on a new platform, WordPress. Obviously, after 17 years on Typepad, this is going to be a learning curve, but as I’ve said before, this blog isn’t going anywhere so I appreciate your continued support! Typepad abruptly canceled all content at the end of September. All those poor writers who couldn’t save their content by then, will have lost it all. It sort of reminded me of the last two times I lost ALL my writing- the first time when Sherren Leigh, founder of Today’s Chicago Woman decided to just delete years of work on a whim – causing all her writers to lose everything. Then, the second nightmare occurred when the Chicago Tribune yanked Chicago Now out from under the feet of its 300+ writers- causing everyone to lose years of hard work and well-established blogs. So, I guess, if I’ve survived these two messes, I can handle this change.
It will be frustrating, but I’m still here!
Let’s switch to something more heartwarming! The Chicago Lighthouse just hosted its most successful FLAIR event in its history! Special thanks and kudos to stellar honoree Dr. Stacie McClane, returning co-chairs Sherrill Bodine, Sherry Lea Holson and Sheree Schimmer. I was honored to return as co-emcee with Tracey DiBuono (also fashion show producer through her ZZAZZ Productions)

The event featured a lively reception, the organization’s largest silent auction and a diverse runway show followed by a luncheon, all in support of the Lighthouse’s mission. Since its inception in 2014, FLAIR has been celebrated as Chicago’s most inclusive fashion showcase, inviting models of varying abilities to share the spotlight on the runway. The show brings together local designers, retailers, business leaders and supporters to help raise funds for more than 40 Lighthouse services ranging from early intervention and low-vision exams to vocational training and youth education.

The fashion show featured a diverse array of designers and retailers, culminating in a grand finale presented by Macy’s State Street. Participating in the show were Anne Fontaine, Contessa Bottega, Lafayette 148, Lauren Lein, Mario Pinto, Menotti Couture, NINA and Mira Couture.

Roberta Kramer, Heritage Auctions senior VP strategy and business development, energetically conducted the paddle raise adding even more revenue to the event’s fundraising goals. The final increment, $120, was asked in honor of the organization’s upcoming 120th anniversary.CC

The silent auction was the largest to date with 59 offerings from Piccolo Sogno, Neiman Marcus, Steak 48, Waldorf Astoria, Maria Pinto, Porchlight Music Theatre, Steppenwolf Theatre Company, Gene & Georgetti, Chicago White Sox, Lookingglass Theatre Company, Music of the Baroque, Cook County Treasurer Maria Pappas, Adler Planetarium, portraitist Rosemary Fanti, Brookfield Zoo, Remy Bumppo Think Theatre, Giordano Dance Company, Lincoln Park Zoo, Goodman Theatre and more. FLAIR 2025 was a testament to the power of fashion to bring people together for a common cause. It underscored the importance of inclusivity and community support in driving meaningful change. Fairmont Chicago was buzzing with energy and elegance on Sept. 23 as Giuliana Rancic and Janet Lee Mandell joined forces for an unforgettable night of fashion, philanthropy and sparkle. Giuliana, celebrity, reporter, breast cancer survivor, fashion designer and entrepreneur, was joined by Janet, founder of the luxe rental boutique Janet Mandell, to celebrate the launch ofG by Giuliana on HSN and debut Giuliana Prosecco.

Guests mingled over flutes of bubbly and caviar with cameras flashing and laughter in the air. Giuliana shared her own breast cancer journey with raw honesty, reminding everyone of the strength behind her smile. A portion of sales from her HSN line and the evening’s prosecco will go to The Pink Agenda (a nonprofit that supports breast cancer research), via Giuliana’s Fab-U-Wish Foundation, which grants wishes to women undergoing cancer treatment. Fairmont’s GM, Nick OrRico, announced the hotel would also contribute part of its proceeds of the bar’s prosecco sales to the same cause.

Janet Mandell brought her signature touch of high fashion and smart sustainability to the mix. Her company, founded in 2018, offers a curated luxury wardrobe rental experience from her flagship in Chicago on Michigan Avenue to Los Angeles and New York City. She’s pushing the envelope further with new consignment and AI-driven virtual try-on features to deepen the “circular fashion” model according to FashionUnited. She and Giuliana made the room feel like a couture salon, inclusive and electric.

In the room were some of Chicago’s finest: Declan and Angela McGovern, Sylvia Perez, Susanna Wickham, Jennifer Sutton Brieva, Bunny Frum, Dorothy Dziubasik, Kathy Kozminske, Cook County Treasurer Maria Pappas and multitalented Cortney Hall, who dazzled on the runway. Giuliana’s cancer journey was woven into every part of the evening. In 2011, after a routine mammogram (initially tied to her infertility treatment), she was diagnosed with breast cancer at age 36, even though she had no family history. A lumpectomy failed to remove all malignant tissue, so she opted for a double mastectomy and reconstructive surgery. Over the years, she has emphasized that openness and early detection matter and she advocates tirelessly for women to know their bodies and get screened.

Janet Mandell’s vision has always been about more than renting designer dresses. She sees fashion as an experience that brings empowerment. By bringing couture-level service (on-site tailoring, styling, etc.) to the rental world, she helps women feel extraordinary without the financial burden of owning every gown. Her recent moves into consignment and AI try-ons reinforce her belief that luxury can be sustainable and that fashion can be both aspirational and respectful of the planet.That night at the Fairmont, fashion and heart were inseparable. The room glowed not only with style, but with generosity, community and shared purpose. It’s proof that when visionaries like Giuliana and Janet bring people together, magic happens and good is born from glamour.
Former Mayor Rich Daley will be honored on Oct. 30 at Navy Pier.
Navy Pier is set to host a gala event titled “A Chicago ExPIERience” on October 30, honoring former Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley for his pivotal role in the 1995 redevelopment of the iconic lakefront destination. This celebration will reflect on the transformation that revitalized Navy Pier, turning it into a vibrant hub of culture and commerce. The evening will pay tribute to Mayor Daley’s leadership, influence, and innovation that once again made Navy Pier the heart of the Chicago experience.
The gala will offer guests an immersive journey back to the mid-1990s, capturing the excitement and wonder of the Pier’s revitalization. There will be surprise performances and “carnival classics.” Attendees will experience the fun and wonder that revitalized the Pier 30 years ago and continues to inspire millions from across the globe to this day.

World Fashion Festival launched its 2025 edition with an opening night at Macy’s State Street Sept. 18, turning the historic Walnut Room into a grand stage for fashion, dance and cultural exchange. The night began with a flamenco-inspired performance that combined live dance with runway presentations. Under the theme “A Night of Passion, Rhythm & Couture,” designers drew from Spanish traditions while incorporating modern styles to create a dynamic link between movement and fashion.

The program, co-hosted by WGN-TV’s Lourdes Durate and NBC-5’s Juan Carlos Navarette, also served as a fundraiser for Ensemble Español Spanish Dance Theater, connecting the artistic energy of the evening to a broader cultural mission. Students from Columbia College Chicago were involved in production and staging, gaining real-world experience in presenting a large-scale fashion event.

Designers featured on opening night included Columbia College student Senbi Turner, Debag of Jordan/Palestine, Bela Lobo of Argentina and Daniel Jemberu from Ethiopia. Guests ranged from fashion enthusiasts to civic leaders and cultural figures, who gathered to see these international and emerging designers make their Chicago debuts. During the evening, Chicago Star Associate Publisher Candace Jordan (this author), received the Iconic Legacy Award, presented by festival founder Cesar Rolón. Other honorees throughout the event were Terisa Griffin and Triphena Jeton Johnson.

The three-day event continued on Sept. 19 with a fashionable fundraiser celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Chicago International Salsa Congress, followed on Sept. 20 by the finale, “A Night of Elegance, Nostalgia and High Fashion,” a tribute to Diana Ross and the glamour of Black and Latino fashion narratives. Other presenting designers included Katya Zol, Valentina Musa, Oemah Etnik, Jack Vallant, Bryan Agosto, Claudia Arce, Edreu Alaban and Thomas Albers. The event also included multiple fashion pop-ups and workshops.
Rolón, who created and produces the festival, was central to the event. His leadership continues to drive its mission of promoting fashion as a platform for cultural exchanges and social impact. He also serves as the festival’s public face, managing connections with designers, sponsors, models and institutions. Rolón is also the founder of Latino Fashion Week.

This November, The Joffrey Ballet presents Joffrey at the Harris: Matters of the Heart at the Harris Theater (Nov. 6–9). Well, friends, the dog days of summer officially tapped out and somehow, I blinked and missed the whole thing. One minute we were dreaming of patio brunches and beach days, and the next? Poof. Gone. I didn’t even make it to my beloved farm stands or farmers markets this year. And let’s not even talk about the vacation that didn’t happen. Ouch. But this is Chicago, we don’t just sit around pouting into our iced coffee. We find the sparkle. Case in point: the fabulous, over-the-top Service Club of Chicago “Day on the Terrace” fashion show/fundraiser. It’s so big now that co-chairs Jean Antoniou, Sharyl Mackey and Tracey DiBuono might have to swap out the Peninsula catwalk for the United Center (and I’m only half kidding). And don’t get me started on the PAWS Chicago Beach Party, where fur babies reign supreme, tails wag like there’s no tomorrow and the Offshore Rooftop becomes a little slice of puppy paradise. So, buckle up, we’re diving into all the moments, causes and celebrations that make Chicago a city like no other.

including its 360@CACC initiative in partnership with Chicago Animal Care & Control, the Lurie Spay/Neuter Clinic and the Nan & Wayne Kocourek Medical Center, a 30,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art facility dedicated to providing medical care for homeless pets. In addition to its Chicago programs, PAWS Chicago’s Disaster Relief Team responded to the recent catastrophic flash floods in the Texas Hill Country by partnering with Wings of Rescue, Concho Valley PAWS and Austin Pets Alive! to relocate dozens of pets previously housed in shelters overwhelmed by the disaster. More than just a festive summer soirée, PAWS Chicago’s Beach Party shined a spotlight on the city’s homeless pet population and the organization’s life-saving work. In 2024, PAWS served 23,842 homeless animals through spay/neuter surgeries, adoptions, fostering, medical care and community outreach programs.

the committee ensures the organizations are stable and viable before they receive the support requested. Once an organization is fully vetted and awarded a grant, cash payments are NOT directly distributed to the grantee. This is what makes them different and able to make a difference among many nonprofits instead of just one. Payment is then made directly to the vendor for the allocated item and then that item is delivered to the organization to fulfill that specific, requested need. So, even though the Service Club’s “Day on the Terrace” was a fashionista’s dream, it also made dreams come true for those less fortunate.

The Ravinia Women’s Board hosted its 59th annual Gala, themed “One Night Only: An Evening with Sutton Foster and Kelli O’Hara” at Ravinia Festival in Highland Park. The July 13 event featured a special performance by
Broadway stars O’Hara and Foster, accompanied by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Marin Alsop. This performance marked the first time Ravinia, North America’s oldest outdoor music festival, hosted a performance by these two acclaimed artists. The evening also introduced the Gala’s first-ever

Foster brought her trademark charisma, comedic flair and powerhouse vocal delivery; O’Hara impressed with her soprano and refined presence. The program opened with George Gershwin’s overture to “Girl Crazy” and included selections like Jeanine Tesori’s “Great Adventure,” Stephen Sondheim’s “What More Do I Need?,” David Yazbek’s “Answer Me,” Cole Porter’s “Anything Goes” and more. The duo incorporated lighthearted

funwith a spirited 1990s medley that featured hits from Mariah Carey, TLC and even a lively nod to“Smells Like Teen Spirit” by Nirvana during their stage banter. O’Hara charmed the audience with Kelli O’Hara’s “They Don’t Let You in the Opera (If You’re a Country Star)” while Foster offered a tender version of Joni Mitchell’s “A Case of You.” The popular medley and their duets earned frequent standing ovations. The concert finale was a moving performance of Bob Dylan’s “Make You Feel My Love,” featuring percussionist Wanye Williams, an alum of Reach Teach Play, on vibraphone, reinforcing the gala’s educational mission through music. Reach Teach Play scholars also performed earlier during cocktails and again during dinner in the Gala Tent, where Foster and O’Hara mingled warmly with guests and students alike before the evening concluded.

When this exhibit finally opens, I hope it will be embraced with open arms—just as I was made to feel special by Hugh Hefner himself. He had a remarkable way of making the Bunnies and Playmates feel cherished—as if we were part of his grand vision, not just figures in a magazine. That feeling—a flash of pride, excitement and belonging—will stay with me always, with or without the physical items. What truly matters is that moment in time, forever etched in my heart. The party began in the lobby where a buffet offered a mile-long stretch of treats that included sushi, hamburgers, pasta, hors d’oeuvres, everything you can imagine- all served under a canopy of trees bedecked in twinkling lights. Kudos to co-chairs Robin Loewenberg Tebbe and Meredith-Bluhm Wolf and board chair Cari Sacks for “bringin’ it” – the crowd was enthralled and not a soul left the tent during the performance that included artists from Tease Productions and Sasha Colby, RuPaul Drag Race 2023 winner. roaming servers is fabulous, and the Joffrey did it in grand style! The floral décor by HMR Designs was in and of itself breathtaking. An area for photo opps was completely filled with a variety of flowers and an old-fashioned swing like the kind you would find on an oak tree in the backyard. Guests came dressed according to the theme with our friend Brian Smith (Joffrey Chief Marketing Officer) winning top outfit for his stunning flower hat that would’ve made Anne Boleyn jealous. All the pasta, except for the gluten-free options (which are imported from Italy), is made in-house. Many menu items are cherished family recipes, like the beloved Giovanni’s Bolognese. This dish features handmade tagliatelle lightly bathed in Bolognese sauce, all nestled in a Parmesan basket. It's divine. Another standout is the Fresh Vegetable Pappardelle, a delightful medley of pappardelle, asparagus, peas, zucchini, and yellow squash in a lemon butter sauce, topped with Pecorino Romano. For appetizers, the meatball dish (beef and veal in house-made tomato sauce) and the fried artichoke hearts are must-tries. Huge congrats to Eli's Cheesecake Company,Maureen and Marc Schulman! Wherever history is being made, you can bet there will be an Eli's Cheesecake to celebrate! They created two 1,000 lb. cheesecakes for The Democratic National Convention welcome party. The cake was decorated with all 50 state placards, and the crowd loved it! In fact, Convention goers consumed over 5,400 lbs. of Eli's Cheesecake, Chicago's favorite dessert, by the time the Convention was over. (One of the main decorators was Ivanna Yatskiv, from the Ukraine, one of 80 refugees working at Eli’s.)

Stars were everywhere with parties sprouting up in some of our city''s favorite spots including Gene & Georgetti, Billy Goat Tavern, 360 Chicago, Navy Pier, Tre Dita, Chicago Club, St. Regis, Carnivale, Salt Shed (where John Legend performed) and more. However, I think the event at the Adler Planetarium hosted by World Business Chicago was the most fun. Rapper Common made a surprise appearance and performed for hours for the rapt crowd. He brought up an audience member, Tifair Hamed, to the stage and rapped out an impromptu 'love song' to her on the spot. I don't think she will ever be the same. It was a fun-filled week in Chicago and our city sparkled like a diamond!

Chuck and I were excited to attend a sneak peek of Giordano Dance Chicago's upcoming fall season at the Harris Theater (on Oct. 25/26 and it was so THRILLING! Famed choreographer, Ray Leeper, has designed a finale piece that will blow the doors off titled "Black & Red" which is an homage to Gus Giordano (these were his favorite colors). This season, also marks the 40th anniversary of the company's much loved artistic director, Nan Giordano! Please click here for tickets and more info. was only in passing so this was my first chance to really get to know him a little better. What surprised me was how deeply kind and thoughtful he was. Before the interview, I had listened to other podcasts with some of Hef's former girlfriends (Bridget and Holly) and wife Crystal, all of whom (except for Bridget, so FAR!) have written scathing books about Hef and their life with Playboy. I was astounded to find that he seemingly had no animosity whatsoever about this. He even suggested he understood that by saying things like they did about his dad, they might "sell more books or attract more followers." Presented by the City of Chicago/Chicago Public Schools, the award recognized his role in promoting high school sports as the executive producer of "Game of the Week" for Weigel Broadcasting, The U and CW 26. Fred has worked in Chicago broadcasting for his entire career beginning in 1985.

It’s so tranquil, itwas hard to leave. One night, we went to a grand home onMiddle Road fora party thrown by Palm Beach’s ultimate host and hostess, Greg and Kim Renk Dryer. It seems every party they have shows up in all the posh magazines and shiny sheets and this one was no different. The guest of honor was Ray Kelly, the longest serving commissioner in NYPD history. After his handling of the World Trade Center bombing, he was offered the position of FBI Director, which he turned down. Kelly served as a

Marine Colonel, fought in the Vietnam war and was endorsedby Sen. Schumer to become Secretary of Homeland Security. In other words, he is an all-around bad-ass. On this night, we was surrounded by young ladies all clamoring for his attention. Even at age 82, the man is still attractive. Oh, what a night! We ended our stay in PB with a dinner at Rocco’s Tacos, another favorite, before heading to Chuck’s favorite spot, Oh My Chocolates! ice cream shop! It’s no wonder people live so long in Florida. Smiles for miles.

Her friend/boss Kathryn Alvera read a sweet letter from her friends before an amazing cake that looked exactly like a Louis Vuitton suitcase (complete with an edible passport on top) was cut. Nikki made a dramatic entrance down the staircase dressed in a hot pink, hi-low dress with a tulle edging that brought oohs and ahhs from the loving crowd. Even though she's not leaving until Feb., Chicago already feels like it has a piece missing.

Sherry Lea Holson hosted her annual Christmas Extravaganza at Knollwood Country Club in Lake Forest recently with around 150 of her closest friends. Her parties are always wrapped in kindness, with invitees to this event encouraged to bring a toy, this year, for the kids at The Chicago Lighthouse, a nonprofit that is near and dear to her heart. (She was the organization's honoree in 2022). Ladies mixed and mingled in the club's beautifully decorated rooms before the lunch chimes rang. Then, all the festively dressed guests moved to the ballroom, which was truly a "White Christmas." Sherry had the room decorated all in white from the table linens to the ornaments on the tree, it was a beautiful vision.

I've been lucky to sit with professional choreographer Tracey Tarantino DiBuono every year, which in my opinion, makes us an automatic winner! Tina Weller offered an inspiring toast to Sherry and, in one skit, professional singer Irene Mojica, performed the Christmas song herself for her table skit. In the past, Sherry has selected a variety of charities to receive the bounty of toys. She truly walks the walk in defining the spirit of Christmas. Cheers to you Sherry and congrats on another wonderful afternoon of camaraderie, holiday cheer and giving back.

With 2024 upon us and, as with everyone, it’s time for reflection. The past year has been both good and bad, with the good winning out, fortunately. First off, I feel that every day we’re above ground is a good one so there’s that. Secondly, any day that my husband is happy and healthy is the best day of my life. Everything else is really just gravy. I never like thinking like a pessimist, but our political situation just sucks, and I’ll leave it at that. I miss the days when political coverage was few and far between. Now I rarely watch television. On a brighter note, Chicago has never seemed more vibrant. Mind you, I’m looking at this from a writer’s perspective and I’ve never found so much to cover than in this past year. It’s almost like everyone is trying to make up for lost time since Covid. The nonprofits are doing well, with many having record-breaking events. The pop-up experiences have never been more prevalent, it seems like there’s one on every corner now but I’m not complaining. Chicago’s rich holiday offerings have included an abundance of twinkling lights, beautiful decor and a Santa in every store. And, even though Macy’s décor doesn’t come close to the days of Marshall Field’s, at least they’re still trying.
As far as NY resolutions, I think my friend and celebrity chef Jaime Laurita said it best, “I want to be more SELFish” and what he means by this is doing more things YOU want to do and not because you’re trying to make someone else happy. I was curious as to what resolutions, hopes and dreams some CHI-lebrities might have for the coming year, so I quizzed them. Check out their thoughtful answers below!

2) I also want to celebrate every day as a gift, full of positivity, kindness and love.

Supreme Court Justice Joy Cunningham was appointed to the bench by the Supreme Court to replace then-retiring Justice Anne Burke in Dec. 2022. She will run for this position in

March 2024 (and has my vote). Justice Cunningham has served at all levels of the judiciary in the State of Illinois and has consistently received high marks in performing her duties as judge. She was elected president of the Chicago Bar Assoc. where she became the first Black woman to lead the nation’s largest municipal bar association. Her New Year’s Eve resolutions are:
1) I plan to get back to my routine of focusing on physical fitness including jogging and exercising 5 times per week.
2) I also plan on continuing to do at least one community outreach activity per month in my role as Supreme Court Justice in an ongoing effort to bring transparency to the function of the Supreme Court and the judiciary in general.

4) I’m motivated to declutter my home in response to an uptick in need by not-for-profit organizations for donations.
One of her most fervent hopes for 2024 is “that the voters of Cook County recognize my dedication and commitment as a Supreme Court Justice and vote to keep me on the court.” She also hopes for a “significant reduction in gun violence and car jackings in our beautiful city and an end to the wars between Russia and Ukraine, Hamas and Israel.”

Apparently, Jessica Pushor (Costume Collections Manager) saw the Antiques Roadshow segment where my Playboy costume and some collectibles were appraised. He is interested in acquiring it for the Museum. The costume was eventually appraised at $25,000 in the updated follow-up to the segment below.

Chef Art Smith has cooked for the Dalai Lama, Oprah, and Lady Gaga and now, for the second time, he was the chosen chef for the prestigious Le Club des Chefs des Chef annual gathering. This culinary organization was founded in 1977 by Gilles Bragard to bring together chefs from national and international kitchens who act as diplomatic representatives. A photo booth, electric violinist and local DJ added to the fun. Chef Lamar Moore’s brisket was a huge hit too, especially with Chef Mark Flannigan, Executive Royal Chef to King Charles III and Queen Camilla, who said,” I wouldn’t be surprised if he gets a Palace invite although he would have to make sure it’s the King’s beef. King Charles loves his own raised livestock, game and vegetables.” The group stayed into the wee hours and, the next evening, enjoyed another lively party, this time at the French Ambassador’s Residence. The National Kidney Foundation of Illinois honored Dr. Joaquin Brieva and his beautiful wife Jennifer Sutton Brieva at its recent gala. Friends and supporters came out in force to help raise over $250,000 for this life-saving nonprofit. Joaquin received a kidney transplant and his donor was in attendance, Stephanie Anderson. What a courageous and loving person to offer the gift of life. We were so sorry we couldn't attend but were there in spirit. There were pups dressed as a piece of sushi, referee, lion, Cracker Jax, scary spiders, Wonder Woman, a piece of candy corn, a banana, Phantom of the Paw-pera, Paddington Bear, Pennywise, Barbie, and so many others. It was an honor to return for the 2nd year as emcee/judge.
Besides the cuteness overload, all the proceeds from the entry fee ($10) went directly to PAWS Chicago. The three categories were "Funniest", "Most Creative", and "Best Ensemble." Volunteers from PAWS, Judy Paice and Courtney Hopkins, were on hand to help move the party along. Harry Caray's owner Grant DePorter was also on hand to give out prizes that included a pair of tickets for a dog-friendly Seadog boat ride courtesy of City Cruises; a pair of tickets for Navy Pier's Ferris Wheel; and a $25 gift certificate to Harry Caray's.

It's really a lesson in self-reflection and a look back at all the things that has made us who we are. It's also an acknowledgement of the goodness in your life. Scientists have found that grateful people manage stress better and live healthier lives. Maybe after you read my column here, you will be inspired to write one of your own. This Thanksgiving, more than in years past, seems like a good time to start. I hope you’re surrounded by family and friends who seem like family.

"The Who's Tommy," the most successful production in Goodman Theatre history!
Goodman Theatre’s Artistic Director Susan V. Booth and Executive Director/CEO Roche Schulfer announced that the Goodman’s must-see musical The Who’s Tommy smashed box office records, officially becoming the highest-grossing production in the 98-year history of Chicago’s largest not-for-profit theater company. Tony Award-winning original creators Pete Townshend and Des McAnuff joined the company on stage for a bow as the “amazing journey” concluded following a matinee in Chicago on Sunday, Aug 6. The unanimously acclaimed, twice-extended production “went clean” in the 856-seat Albert Theatre selling a record number of single tickets and selling out 36 performances. Audiences attending hailed from all 50 United States, including the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico, as well as 21 other countries as far away as New Zealand, with many patrons attending multiple performances.

Metropolitan Family Services DuPage celebrated its 22nd annual DuPage Gala to highlight the organization’s holistic approach to serving families and individuals. The event took place in Woodridge at Bobak’s Signature Events, with sports anchor Dionne Miller serving as emcee. The evening included impact speeches from families who have benefited from MFS’s Supporting Housing Initiative for Families in Transition program and also recognized its Roger K. Johnson Leadership Awardees — Mary Ann and Paul Travers, Mike Skarr and Paul Pyrcik – for their commitment to Metropolitan and Family Shelter Service of Metropolitan DuPage. The gala was co-chaired by Metropolitan DuPage Board Members Dan McGowan and Emily Shupe. MFS is a nonprofit that provides support and family services to strengthen communities.

Other concerts were performed at Grace Lutheran Church in River Forest; Saints, Faith, Hope & Charity Church in Winnetka and Alice Millar Chapel in Evanston. The chorus will return in April for Bach's monumental St. Matthew Passion under the direction of Dame Jane Glover. relax and enjoy the holidays. We're losing too many friends too soon and too young. Nothing is as important as your health so try not to stress over things of less importance. Believe me, I am still trying to learn how to do this but I am determined I will succeed and I hope you do too. I don't think Chicago has ever looked more festive during the holidays. I see more balconies lit up. As Declan McGovern said, "They're decorating their own little stages." And I just love it. I believe there are even more light displays around the city as well. I've never seen the Hancock Building's decorations look more beautiful. I think everyone is trying extra hard this year to counteract the bad news we get on a daily basis. I appreciate anyone and everyone who has lit a single candle to dispel the darkness. I truly believe it helps lifts spirits. I know I feel better just staring at our Christmas tree. It might be up all year long this time! Ho! Ho! Ho!
