He was the very first Medical Director of MedVet and has performed more than 15,000 surgeries over the course of his career. He volunteers his time to perform these types of surgeries at the PAWS Medical Center, providing care for some of the most difficult cases that come through their doors. Dr. Jackson has also established an orthopedic program at PAWS, while mentoring future generations of surgeons to continue this important work. He advanced

Over the last three years, she has driven over 36,000 miles traveling with the PAWS Chicago intake team, driving multiple trips to disaster areas to clear shelters, allowing lost animals an opportunity to be found by their owners, and saving thousands of those lives who were already up from adoption. Following the program, guests enjoyed dancing, dessert tasting stations, a glow bar and a photo booth. Since PAWS Chicago’s founding in 1998, over 76,000 pets have found forever homes. score, composed by Lera Auerbach and performed live by the Lyric Opera Orchestra, brought the production and the audience to another level, perfectly matching the intensity of what we see onstage. The addition of the theremin, an electronic instrument invented in 1928, depicts the Mermaid’s voice and her ethereal, mystical side. People may recognize the eerie sound of this

instrument from sci-fi films of the 1950s. It is controlled without physical contact- the musician (thereminist) waves their hands near two antennas to create sounds associated with ominous situations, of which there were many throughout the performance. The entire cast was outstanding. Yoshihisa Arai, retiring at the end of the 2022-23 season, played the menacing Sea Witch and Dylan Guiterrez expertly performed the role of the Prince, also requiring as much acting skills as dance and succeeding wildly at both. A heart-warming tender moment occurred when the dancers were taking their many curtain calls. Jaiani’s 9-year-old son and husband, former Joffrey dancer Temur Suluashvili, both presented their shining star with flowers. The production was entrancing, unsettling and danced with skills beyond imagining. During intermission, VIP guests enjoyed mixing and mingling in the Graham Room. If you missed this production this time around, make sure to see it when it returns!

The 15^th annual Houndstooth Ball attracted more than 500 animal-loving supporters, many with their pups, to Morgan Manufacturing on March 18. Benefiting One Tail at a Time (OTAT), a no-kill animal rescue organization, the event celebrated 15 years of supporting ongoing and new

initiatives such as its ISO House, a quarantine location in Logan Square that creates a safe, transitional space for sick or injured dogs from Chicago shelters. During the lively evening, that celebrated a decade of lifesaving, partygoers enjoyed a whiskey tasting presented by Green Briar and made memories in a variety of animal-related photo ops. Professional doodlers created hand-drawn portraits of pets and an onsite SPAW helped them relax. The silent and live auctions featured over 100 items, including a unique OTAT “patchwork” quilt. The program was emceed by Elliott Bambrough (of Chicago’s Best), who was joined by Heather Owen, OTAT executive director. Bambrough spoke about being inspired by the dedication of the organization's volunteers and how well it functioned as a family. Owen thanked the crowd and sponsors and shared the nonprofit's ongoing success story. An all-vegan buffet was served and, on every table, were photos with short stories of OTAT's adoption successes. The event raised over $300,000 which will fund the rescue, rehabilitation and adoption of dogs, kittens, and bunnies in need. The funds will also help support adopters and grow community outreach, including humane education and assistance for disadvantaged and low-income families. lived there. She was a force of nature and involved in all good deeds in the neighborhood. She was also a source for advice and inspiration if you were feeling low. She knew

this part of Chicago better than anyone else and was its biggest cheerleader. Her book, “Hidden History of Old Town” was/is a must-have in every home. She was an incredible cook, a graduate of Le Cordon Bleu, and upon her passing, had amassed over 2000 cookbooks. I loved her for her honesty, among many other reasons. You could always expect the truth from Shirley. She had a heart as big as all outdoors and she never knew a stranger. She was welcoming, funny, kind and wickedly smart. Chuck and I will always treasure our memories of her and Norman. But then, no one ever really dies. She will always live in our hearts.

event, which was held April 14, celebrated the Library’s 150th birthday and raised more than $125,000 for its programs. In celebration of this historic milestone, the Library transformed after dark with neon bright décor, dance floor, live music from DJ Rex Balcita, and an open bar. Nearly 400 attendees saw the Maker Lab’s 21st-century technologies in action, took a spin in a 360-photo booth, and joined the raffle for chances to win amazing prizes.

Floral exhibit standouts spotlighted the Honduras (from Bloome Floral Design, which won for Best in Show); Marrakech (created by Lucalessa Floral Design); London Guard Mannequin (also a winner, by The Roof Crop); Peru (by Vision in Bloom); Egypt Mannequin (by Dilly Lily) and many others. The preview party, held May 3, featured signature cocktails, light bites and DJ Megan Taylor. Dancers from ZZAZZ Productions entertained guests before the judging results were announced. The Honduras, Best in Show exhibit/mannequin by Bloome, was created in honor of exchange student Christi Carol Garcia Orellana, who studied here for her college degree before heading back to her home in Honduras. In addition to the exhibit, there were daily, floral workshops and a pop-up, fresh flower market.

When I moved to Chicago, I wanted her to see everything I saw through my eyes so I began writing very detailed letters about any event, party, dinner, etc. that I attended so she would feel like she was there. I think this style, and the reason for it, has served me well. Now, I get to take all of you around town with me –so basically, you're family too. 🙂

SPRING IS BACK AND SO AM I!

I might be late with my blog, but I'm sure not going anywhere. After 13 years, CandidCandace.com is still here and I'm hoping you agree, better late than never! So much has happened since we last talked. Chicago Star, which is growing by leaps and bounds, celebrated its first birthday, Valentine's Day came and went, and finally we're seeing signs of

Spring. As in years past, Chuck and I have been very fortunate to have the opportunity to get to a warmer clime for a winter vacation. Palm Beach has become one of our top spots in Florida but, truth be told, we would take any part of this great state. We love everything about it. When you first arrive in town, there is nothing like seeing this sign:

After more than a two-year hiatus from hosting public events, 900 North Michigan Shops closed Women’s History Month with a luxe kickoff party to inaugurate Fleurs de Villes FEMMES – a five-day, immersive experience that essentially transformed 900 Shops into equal parts art gallery and floral boutique. Some 275 guests attended the after-hours affair to celebrate the opening of the stunning exhibit featuring more than a dozen mannequins dressed in custom gowns made of thousands of fresh flowers. Each mannequin honored one of the following luminaries: Betty White, Michelle Obama , Frida Kahlo, Malala Yousafzai, Maria Tallchief, Audrey Hepburn, Oprah Winfrey, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Rita Moreno, Diana Ross, Empress Xiaozhuangwen, Bertha Palmer and Queen Anne. Florists competed for the following categories: Florist Favorite (Bloome, for Oprah Winfrey); Most Realistic (Flowerchild, for Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis); Most Creative (Ki iHouse, for Bertha Palmer); Best in Show (Hedonia, for Empress Xiaozhuangwen). The judges panel was made up of, Courtney Hopkins, former president, The Costume Council; Patience Pickner, floral designer, Kennicott Brothers; Cortney Hall, co-host of Chicago Today and Rosie Clayton, social media influencer. Guests were treated to an array of hors d'oeuvres from Aster Hall, and cocktails courtesy of the exhibit’s liquor sponsor, Hendrick’s Gin. In addition to the exhibit, guests were also the first to experience the garden setting of Le Jardin, where floral workshops took place throughout the run of the show, with décor provided by Kehoe Designs. One Tail at a Time brought back its Houndstooth Ball after hosting virtual galas during the pandemic. The 13th Houndstooth Ball welcomed nearly 600 of Chicago’s animal philanthropists, rescuers and their furry friends for a fundraiser on March 12 at the Morgan Manufacturing building. The gala was held virtually the past two years because of the COVID-19 pandemic. All proceeds benefit the rescue, rehabilitation and adoption of dogs,

It will also support One Tail at a Time adopters and community outreach efforts, including its work to provide humane education and assistance for disadvantaged and low-income families. Attendees enjoyed a vegan dinner from Liberation Donuts while their dogs received their own special meals. The event is always a sellout and this year brought out supporters in force. A silent auction offered over 100 packages including a photo session with Becky Brown Photography, a custom tattoo of your dog and a rescue ride-along with Executive Director Heather Owen. VIP ticket holders enjoyed an extra hour of cocktails with vegan appetizers and a VIP bag full of goodies. The event was emceed by Fred of 103.5 KISS FM.

RIP dear Ken Price.

A longtime fixture in the Chicago community has passed. Ken Price, who spent decades as the public relations director for the Palmer House left us at age 82 after a long bout with cancer. His memorial in the Empire Room of the Palmer House was standing room only. He was beautifully eulogized by Dean Lane

This party was the first without any Hefners and I didn't know quite what to expect as I'm a lifelong fan of the Hefner family and, of course, the man who started it all. At first, it felt a little like a betrayal but then the incredibly welcoming Playboy staff made me, and

everyone else, feel right at home. In fact, I felt like I was right where I belonged again. It was also great to finally put faces to the names of some of the staff at the magazine. I was thrilled to see that everything seems to be in very capable hands with the likes of Cat Auer, Erica Loewy, Kristi Beck and Micaela Leone, to name a few. Playboy CEO Ben Kohn gave a short speech at the party detailing all of the magazine's recent triumphs and plans for the future, which looks very bright indeed! He announced

and so many more. We took lots of photos and chatted about what we were all up to. No matter how long I'm away from Playboy and the Playmates, our interactions always feel like we just left off yesterday. It's a very unique sorority that I'm proud to be a part of. It was a night I'll never forget. The excitement over the success of the magazine combined with seeing myself featured 40 years after appearing as a centerfold seemed like a fairytale. Thank you Hef for creating such a loving, loyal and supportive family. I'm so happy to see his vision being carried on in such grand style. I think, and I hope, he likes what he sees. I know I do. "Ecologists from the University of Sydney now estimate 480 million mammals, birds, and reptiles have been lost since September," according to News Corp. "That figure is likely to soar following the devastating fires which have ripped through Victoria and the [New South Wales] South Coast over the past couple of days, leaving several people dead or unaccounted for, razing scores of homes and leaving thousands stranded." Koalas in particular have been devastated by the fires, Graham noted, because they "really have no capacity to move fast enough to get away." As Reuters reported Tuesday, "Australia's bushland is home to a range of indigenous fauna, including kangaroos, koalas, wallabies, possums, wombats, and echidnas. Officials fear that 30 percent of just one koala colony on the country's northeast coast, or between 4,500 and 8,400, have been lost in the recent fires." Too sad for words.

Tracey Tarantino DiBuono and Sherrill Bodine–past and future Service Club presidents.

Last night's Service Club of Chicago meeting saw the passing of the gavel from outgoing president Tracey Tarantino DiBuono to incoming president Sherrill Bodine, who has accepted a one year term in honor of her dear friend and longtime SC member, the late Lynda Silverman. Tracey delivered a heartfelt speech on her time in office that had the spillover crowd in happy tears. She said, "My heart is full with the joy of connecting on so many personal levels as well as professional. I will cherish these moments and look forward to continued friendships made. I deeply appreciate all of the hard work, determination, coordination, co-operation, and time devoted by all of you. I am proud to stand amongst you. Thank you for your support and kindness." I don't know about you, but I'm feeling a little short-changed on the holidays. It seems like as soon as I got our decor up, it was time for it to come down. Oh, I'm still holding out but am noticing all the lights blinking out around town and it's so sad that people are giving up so soon (Michael Caputo, I'm talking to you!) Anyway, it's staying put for a while longer as it brings such a warm, cheery sparkle to our home. It's not over till the Christmas Tree sings and I don't hear anything yet.

PLAYBOY DOMINATES GLAMOURCON 53!

Glamourcon 53 featured Playboy Playmates (past and present), Playboy Cyber girls and Special Edition models plus pin-ups and it was great seeing some of my fellow Playmates like Janis Schmitt, who was also a Bunny with me at the St. Louis Playboy Club. Patti McGuire, Janis and I were all friends at this wonderful club back in the ‘70s and I’m happy to say we all remain close today. Such is the story for most Playmates I know – their friendships are lasting due to shared experiences and I saw lots of new Playmates making friends-for-life at this weekend affair founded by Bob Schultz. Until I interviewed Bob, I never really knew how Glamourcon, in this format, began. He recounted that for years the event didn’t include Playboy Playmates until Hef walked in one day and “his whole world changed.” Hef walked around the show and commented, “You need Playmates!” and Bob said, “Do you know anyone who could help me with this?” and the rest, as they say, is history. The show now centers around Playmates who are well represented from every era including the early ‘50s, when Playboy first began, to this year’s latest double centerfold Playmates, Beth Williams (8/12) and Shelby Chesnes (7/12), who both busily took photos and signed autographs for the fans. For the first time ever, the opportunity to “Shoot a Centerfold” was presented by two legends of Playboy, Jeff Cohen (former Special Editions Editor) and Gary Cole (former longtime photo director), where they offered amateur photogs the chance to shoot Playmates in lingerie. This event also included a party bus downtown to The Joynt on Saturday night where guests could mix and mingle at this local nightclub with the Playmates. It was a great idea which gave many fans the opportunity to remove a “bucket list wish item” according to Jeff. I love this event, not only because it gives me a chance to see my “sorority sisters” but also because it has the best fans! They are all very knowledgeable and interested in Playboy and its history plus, sometimes, they bring you memorabilia that you never knew existed: Last year, a fan brought a foreign Playboy double cover of mine that I never knew was even published! This year, I received flowers…it’s a fun event for all involved and I can’t wait till the next Glamourcon in Long Beach on November 10th and 11th. The Field Associates of the Field Museum hosted their annual Summer Soiree, co-chaired by Melissa Genova and Katie Sassaman, on the Stanley Field Hall Balcony July 19th. Prospective Field Associates were invited to join active members for this fun evening co-hosted by the Field Museum President’s Leadership Council. More than 100 guests enjoyed not only cocktails and hors d’oeuvres but the opportunity to learn from the museum’s Department of Environment, Culture and Conservation how birds use their bills and adapt to their food sources plus lots of other interesting factoids. Guests also got a chance to tour the museum’s newest permanent exhibit, “Restoring Earth.” This total immersion experience allowed visitors to see conservation efforts from Chicago to South America, to Pacific coral reefs and points in between through the use of huge, breathtaking visuals. (If you haven’t seen this exhibit, it is a must-see!) Partygoers also dressed up in various types of field gear, such as fire suits (used in prairie burns) and hip waders, vests and binoculars (used in wetland surveys) to snap fun pics in the photo booth. Guests seen on the scene included Ryan Tiojanco, Laurie Penalber, Carlin Geremias, Kelsey Phillips, Andrew Critchell, Kelsey Tolmie, Jessie Zhang, Field Museum President/CEO John McCarter, Jeff Korzenik, Jeff Havsy, Jennifer Nolan, Sam Baker, Emily Spector, Sarah Lichtenstein (Field Associates President) and Field Museum Trustee Dave Tolmie. This event’s mission was to engage Chicago’s next generation of civic leaders at The Field Museum. I'd never been to Festa Italiana but according to locals, this was the year to go since it was bigger and better than ever! Produced by Vasta & Associates, this year's 6th Annual Taylor Street Festa Italiana had something for everyone, attracted more than 50,000 during its four day run and was bigger by five blocks. The multiple stages showcased talents that included Moreno Fruzzetti, Tony Spavone, Dominic Mantuano, Aaron Caruso and Packy Angelo Ciaravino. The line-up of pop and rock entertainment included "Chicago's Entertainer" Ron Hawking, Hair Bangers Ball, The Legendary Drifters, Mike & Joe, Liquid Soul, Acoustic Generation, Your Villain My Hero, This Must Be The Band, Jaw Potato, Peter Guerin, John Vincent, Ten Foot Tail, Breakfast Club and Hot Sauce Committee. A fabulous fashion show presented by ZZAZZ Productions' Tracey DiBuono featured all local designers and included exquisite collections from Kate Boggiano, Cettina, Mark Roscoe Design, Loreta Corsetti, Couture Millinery, Paul Sisti Creations, Mona Lisa Boutique and Silver Elements, a jewelry line from accessory designer Marla Lenza Zegart and The Lovehammers' Marty Casey. This was a fabulous production, as only ZZAZZ can do, and had the large crowd cheering with every model run. "I was thrilled to see Festa Italiana Chicago salute Italian food, singers, family and fashion done in a professional production with a salute to Chicago's talented Italian Americans in the fashion industry. From Milan to Taylor Street, they walked in great style," said DiBuono. Fun activities included a grape stomping competition, a meatball eating contest (hosted by presenting sponsors Turano Baking Company and Fontanini) and a bocce ball tournament. Giancarlo Turano II presided over the meatball eating contest with a female participant downing the most sandwiches (eight!) in just two minutes! The food stands were out-of-this-world with pizza, pasta, pork chop sandwiches, Italian-style corn on the cob (parmesan cheese and butter!), steamed clams, gelato, meatball sandwiches, Italian beef and sausage sandwiches, Italian ice, grilled calamari and all of the wine and beer you could drink! There were also stands carrying toys for the kids, jewelry, handmade clothing and handbags among many other offerings. A portion of the proceeds benefitted the University Village Association, a non-profit dedicated to improving the economic and residential development of the neighborhood. Last year, beloved designer Barbara Bates filled the room for her 25th anniversary in business at her annual Barbara Bates Foundation Fashion Show and this year will be no different with reservations already flying out the door! After being diagnosed with breast cancer herself, Barbara has extended her philanthropic reach to support the cause of breast cancer research and treatment so this year, her show will feature her gorgeous designs on models who are also breast cancer survivors. There she was, standing at the sink with chicken juice all over her fingers and in a crappy mood, when he came back from Costco and announced he’d bought a gift for himself – a sub-woofer for their home theater system. She thought, “Just GREAT!” and continued to decimate the chicken…until he said, “I got a gift for you, too.” As Rachel Schwanz turned around, she saw her boyfriend of two years, Chef James David De Marte, go down on one knee offering her a tiny box. As she pulled her hands OUT of the chicken, she asked, “You’re doing this now?!” He did indeed propose and squeezed the ring onto her salmonella-covered finger amid many tears of joy. As Rachel said, “It’s classic that a chef proposed to me in the kitchen, of course!” I adore both of these successful, dedicated and beloved people and wish them a lifetime of happiness! They will have a small wedding in Playa del Carmen, Mexico, on April 20, 2013…Mrs. Rachel De Marte sounds really, really good, don’t you think? Congrats to you two lovebirds!

51st GLAMOURCON HIGHLIGHTS PLAYBOY PLAYMATES, PAST AND PRESENT!

Glamourcon is a bi-yearly event that celebrates the world of glamour and pinup art with an emphasis on Playboy Playmates. This year at the Crowne Plaza O’Hare, more than 20 Playmates participated. There were girls from every era including the current Playmate of the Year, Claire Sinclair. Claire’s looks harken back to the days of famous pinup Bettie Page with her dark hair and short cropped bangs. Even her flirty, polka dot skirt reminded me of a kinder, gentler time. No wonder Hef picked her! Of course, I guess it doesn’t hurt to be dating his son, Marston, either! At 20 years of age, Claire is one of the youngest Playmates of the Year! My husband wondered if she even had her driver’s license and I replied that I am sure she has no shortage of limo offers! She is cute, adorable, bright, funny and sexy all rolled into one package. Her star turn at MGM Grand’s Crazy Horse Paris revue brought the house down during her hot burlesque number on the big, red lips sofa. But enough about Claire – there were lots of other fabulous Playmates there too like Janis Schmitt, Miss February 1978 (who I was a Bunny with in St. Louis), Lee Ann Michelle (Miss February 1979), Liz Glazowski (4/80), Charlotte Kemp (12/82), Kerri Kendall (9/90), Crystal McCahill (5/09) and her mom Gale Olson (8/68), Henriette Allais (3/80), Cathy St. George (8/82), Lorraine Michaels (4/81) and Lisa Sohm (4/77), among others. The two-day event attracted more than 600 fans and offered everything under the sun pin-up related including vintage Playboy magazines, original artwork, t-shirts, sculptures, Playboy clothing, photography sessions, an old-time burlesque show by Vaudezilla.com and jewelry to name a few of the highlights. It was great seeing favorite friend/fans like Tom Shimada who never fails to amaze me. During the last show, he had found a Playboy cover that I had never seen and he did it again this year! He brought an unknown cover from Mexico dated March 1981. Playmate Cathy St. George had done the identical cover for the U.S. version in October 1981. Playboy is one of the original “recyclers!” Also seen on the scene, the “Playmate’s Friend” Larry Armstrong (who always finds treasures to bring to the show), John O’Neill, photographer Tom Testolin, Seth Grenald, calendar and poster dealer Thomas Helmke (who presented me with my calendar from 1982), John Newman, artists Alex Lord and Steve Baier along with dear Jeff Evans (who is the only person I know with a baseball signed by almost every single 500+ home run hitter including Ted Williams, Mickey Mantle, Frank Thomas, Hank Aaron, Ernie Banks, Willie Mays, Reggie Jackson and Barry Bonds to name a few!!!). Friend and United Airlines pilot, Bloke Mauer, touched my heart by gifting me with half of his pilot’s wings! The next Glamourcon will be at the Hilton in Long Beach, California, on November 5th and 6th. I talked to Patti Connors and we hope to make it a Bunny/Playmate reunion with Janis Schmitt and Debra Jensen McMurray, (Miss January1978). The Shedd Aquarium’s 5th Annual BLU event was an ocean lover’s delight with more than 1,000 guests mixing and mingling at the historic aquarium on a perfect night in Chicago. The star of the show was the jellyfish (jellies) exhibit but the true star was the aquarium itself. Opening in 1930, it has been a top cultural attraction in the city and, on this night, with the decorative lighting, the exhibits looked like stage sets. The jellyfish were glowing and undulating in their temporary homes (which I hope becomes permanent!) and the sharks, along with 500 other species, were swimming lazily in the Wild Reef complete with its own crashing surf. I am ashamed to say this was only my second time at the Shedd, but thanks to their dynamic Auxiliary Board, who presented this event, I will be returning again and again. There is so much to see here! On this night there were tastings from some of Chicago’s top restaurants including farm raised caviar from Big Fish Farms, tuna and salmon tartar from cibo matto at the Wit, Spanish saffron rice and chicken from Emilio’s Tapas, steak tartar from Hubbard Inn, house smoked sturgeon from Lockwood Restaurant, tacos de carnitas from Mercadito, pan seared goat cheese from Prairie Grass Café, duck breast and beet salad from newcomer Roka Akor Sushi and Steak and a gorgeous chocolate tower of fondue from the Melting Pot among many others. At the end of the night, when dancing began on the Lakefront Terrace, delicious pizza from Aurelio’s was served. Co-chairs Janet Barnes and Julie Hawkins, along with the Shedd staff led by Katie Clark, planned a perfect night under the stars that raised over $150K for conservation and educational programs. Lots more summer fun coming in the Windy City with the first ever “Street Food Artistry Event” on Sunday, August 14th, at Galleria Marchetti, located at 825 W. Erie, from 1 – 7 PM. This unique event celebrates Chicago’s street food culture and will include food trucks, street-inspired dishes, food carts, street inspired art, photography and more. There will even be an adorable doggie ice cream truck, LickLick, which will cater to the four-legged guests! Owner Adreana Droz says, “We use only top-grade human ingredients in our doggie treats and ice cream. There are no preservatives or stabilizers of any kind.” Fido can choose between flavors such as peanut butter bacon, green apple cheddar, carrot carob and strawberry almond mint. Makes me wish I was a dog! (Not really!) The silent auction will benefit Common Threads, Chicago Street Musicians and the University of Chicago Charter School. The 47th Chicago Film Festival will honor actor Martin Sheen with a much deserved Lifetime Achievement Award before he premieres his latest film, “The Way” on Friday, August 19th. He will walk the Red Carpet beginning at 6:30 PM alongside his son, Emilio Estevez, who wrote and co-directed with his dad. The film is a feel-good movie about the relationship between a father and son. Film Fest founder Michael Kutza always reins in top talent for his galas and this year is no exception. The film will premiere at AMC River East with a post reception across the street at the Sheraton Chicago Hotel & Towers. Legendary Bill Kurtis will be the emcee and RL’s Rich Varnes is the chair for this event along with a great host committee. It will be a week of dance next week beginning with the 20th anniversary of the Dance for Life Gala coming to the Auditorium Theatre, located at 50 E. Congress Parkway, on Saturday, August 20th. This event benefits DIFFA (Design Industries Foundation Fighting Aids) and will feature five dance companies including The Joffrey Ballet, Ron de Jesus Dance, Giordano Jazz Dance of Chicago, Hubbard Street Dance and River North Dance Company plus two world premieres by choreographers Harrison McEldowney and Randy Duncan. Following this dance theme, the Chicago Dancing Festival will present its opening night benefit gala at the MCA with Mayor Rahm Emanuel as the host on Monday, August 22nd. (He used to be a ballet dancer, dontcha know?) The night will feature an intimate evening of duet performances by Brian Brooks Moving Company, Faye Driscoll, Hubbard Street Dance, artists from The Joffrey Ballet, Martha Graham Dance Company and the Chicago Dancing Festival’s first ever original commissioned work by Walter Dundervill. The performance begins at 6 PM followed by cocktails and dinner. This event kicks off five days of the festival with the Grand Finale on Saturday night, August 27th, beginning at 7:30 PM with the “Celebration of Dance,” which is open to the public in Millennium Park. ASIDES! Congrats to Tails in the City for being a destination point for John Legend and girlfriend Chrissy Teigen. Darling owners Bruce Haas and Philip Emigh tell me they stocked up on Poochee collars and leashes, a new carrier and bed plus lots of toys and treats. John was in town touring with Sade but, before the show, they headed to Table 52 for Chef Art’s famous fried chicken!

Chicago’s own Steve Starr is known for his photography skills but the set stylists for the much-talked about new television show, "The Playboy Club," sought him out for something else. Steve also has cases of vintage items available for purchase in the Lincoln Antique Mall (on Irving Park Road near Kedzie). There, they found some wonderful pieces for their set including a vintage radio and French sunglasses circa 1962. Steve Starr – a man of many talents!
