filled with uplifting, fun and positive news. No "if it bleeds, it leads" sort of stuff for us! As a matter of fact, our October issue was our first Fashion & Beauty issue and I/we had a blast putting it together! From the outstanding cover photo of some of our town's most beloved designers (that I produced with the one and only Hilary Higgins and Erin Lyle Photography) to the "Secrets of Style from Industry Insiders" article to a very clever take on fashion from a completely different point of view, contributor Jon Cohn's, this issue had it ALL! Read it here and let me know what you think!

Depositphotos_61663845-stock-photo-infinite-gratitudeEven though this has been a trying summer, I think we still have so much to be grateful for. Hopefully, we're near the tail end of this seemingly never-ending pandemic. We've been separated from our loved ones, in fear of our health, zoomed away from our jobs and discombobulated in 100s of other ways and I can still feel it, can't you? I've always loved summer, reveled in it really, but this year, I've viewed every day with caution and some discomfort, not knowing how many shootings the day might bring or if I would hear of another friend or acquaintance who's come down with Covid (like dear Former Secretary of State Colin Powell), despite being fully vaccinated. It's fear of the unknown that we're all dealing with on a regular basis now and Istockphoto-1007339180-612x612 this anxiety can be felt throughout the city and in everyone I know. Summer is supposed to be the time of joyous abandon, but this year, it's been exactly the opposite. I pray this will end soon so we can get back to being the people we're supposed to be–kind, loving, giving, helpful–and move away from all of this negativity and fear. Fall brings change and I hope it brings us more happy days filled with corn mazes, apple cider donuts, glowing fireplaces, walks in the woods, bundling up in your favorite sweaters and roadtrips with friends and family. Here's to you dear readers and to a kinder, gentler season for us all.

Picture perfect! It was the first and best red carpet experience to come back in Chicago since the pandemic so it was no wonder that the nearly 200 guests at the Hilton|Amus Contemporary art gallery opening didn't want to leave. The event, hosted by the gallery in its new Bridgeport location on October 9, celebrated the opening of its upcoming exhibition, "Changing Lanes," which featured the works of renowned photographer David Yarrow in collaboration with supermodel Cindy Crawford. The exhibition included Yarrow's stunning interpretation of Cindy's iconic Pepsi ad by Joe Pytka, simply titled "1992," which was the year the original commercial aired

The event helped raise funds for the University of Wisconsin Kids Cancer Program, the same hospital that treated Cindy's late brother Jeff who passed away from leukemia as a child. The red carpet stretched all the way through the garage into the massive freight elevator and then up to the main gallery. Art enthusiasts stepped into the 5,000-square-foot

On this night, David Yarrow's exquisite work was on full display, many featuring Cindy, while others focused on the Wild West and animals in the wild. Cindy arrived in a stunning, sequin-studded gun-metal grey jumpsuit to greet guests. She graciously chatted with media in front of her iconic image, along with Mr. Yarrow. They shared their joy over

Cindy spoke about the legendary Chicago photographer, Victor Skrebneski, who discovered and mentored her. She said he taught her professionalism and to remember that the photos were about selling the product and not the model. She also spoke about her daughter Kaia, also a supermodel, and how proud she was of her and the decisions she's

Not many showed up from my year but we still had fun!

I don't agree with Thomas Wolfe, I think you can go home again and should. It was life-affirming to return to my hometown of Dupo, Illinois recently for my "No Class Reunion, " that was filled with all the faces of my childhood. Sadly, with each passing year, we lose friends and the

There is a very good reason why The Service Club of Chicago has been around since 1890! Their survival instincts have been intact through the 1918 Spanish Flu, the Crash of '29 and two World Wars! This year, in the time of Covid,

they proved their mettle once again with a brilliant pivot from their always sold-out "Day on the Terrace" fashion show, held virtually this year on Monday, August 3. The event was co-chaired by SC members Sharyl Mackey, Jean Antoniou, Tracey DiBuono and Jamie Thorsen,

with DiBuono's ZZAZZ Productions producing the show. The taped, fashion show portion of the event took place socially distanced and masked at The Geraghty (thank you Tom Kehoe, BlackOak Productions and Kehoe Designs) on July 20 with just 28 models. Typically, this popular event is held at the Peninsula with over 75 models on the runway! This year's first look at fall fashion showcased designer looks from alice+olivia, Carlisle,

IMG_2519Even though the attendees were socially distanced and masked on the 35 acre farm, that didn't mean they weren't close in heart for animal welfare. Chance the Rapper. The trio visited Beatrix on Wednesday, July 29 sitting outside on the patio around 12:30 pm. Hailey sipped on an Iced Matcha with Honey & Oat Milk (thought you needed to know this). They chatted and enjoyed the weather at the neighborhood restaurant and coffeehouse for about an hour and a half. After coffee at Beatrix, they went for dinner that same night at RPM Seafood, sitting outside on a private terrace overlooking the Chicago River. After they finished dinner, which included the restaurant's signature Seafood Tower, they enjoyed dessert, Cookies & Cream Ice Cream Cake. On their way out, they stopped to take photos with a few fans outside the restaurant. On Bieber's Insta page he said of the evening and of his wife, "the love of his life," "This is my view during date night. Wtf. I'm so blessed."

stories was profoundly moving and created by the Museum, which is the first in the world to employ this technology in a permanent exhibition space. To create this interactive experience, 13 Survivors from around the world agreed to go through a rigorous interviewing process. Each of the participating Survivors spent several days in a Los Angeles studio, answering over 2,000 questions about their Holocaust experiences before the unblinking gaze of 50-plus cameras. The experience is interactive and you can ask all the Survivors questions about their lives. Take a look at Fritzie Fritzshall's story below and I hope you get a chance to visit the Museum soon AND join me for the virtual event on Sept. 2 (Event details here!)

Big congrats to the Big Shoulders Fund, an independent charitable organization that supports inner-city schools across the Chicagoland area, on its latest major fundraising effort, the 20th annual Golf Classic! This event, held at the Olympia Fields Country Club on August 3, raised nearly $600,000 and brought together more than 115 civic and corporate leaders.  The funds raised supported the Friends of Big Shoulders

Guests can add to the magic in their own home by purchasing party packages with food, beverage, and merchandise. The program will be appealing to all ages, so that guests from age 2 to 92 can share an afternoon together to get into the holiday spirit! The event will be co-chaired by WB members Melinda Jakovich-Lagrange, Jessica Jecmen and Marcie Wright. The potential event date will be either November 7 or 8, and I'll share an update just as soon as this information is confirmed.  (Check here for more info!)

PoohWith the world spinning at such a pace and Chicago being turned upside down, I always think of this quote by the English theologian and historian Thomas Fuller. "It is always darkest just before the dawn." I pray this is true because we are going through some of the darkest days I've ever experienced here in our beautiful city. Looters seem to be on every corner and the disrespect towards our police is at an all-time high. I am not a political person but I do have common sense and I think I know what's right and what's morally wrong. There is no excuse for all this crime. NONE. PERIOD. I hope these hard times will serve a positive purpose as a wake up call to our communities, government officials and citizens. Protesting for what you believe in is one thing but trashing a city is an entirely different matter and should NOT be allowed in any way, shape or form.

2019 Eversight honorees Sherry Lea Holson and Dr. David Lubeck.

Making Vision a Reality! The 4th annual Gift of Sight fundraiser for Eversight, this year themed "Mystery Masquerade," was

held at the Peninsula Chicago on October 24. In year's past, the event was held in June but the over 250 guests who attended this year seemed to really enjoy the move to October and especially the masquerade concept since nearly everyone came wearing elaborate and creative masks! As guests descended the staircase to the grand ballroom, passing through golden curtains, they were greeted by incredible "human candelabra" (courtesy of ZZAZZ Productions). Two performers

steroids! Tamar Productions upped the decor ante with an exquisitely tented ballroom in ribbons of black and gold. A MyEyeDr "gold cosmo" bar, an event sponsor, was placed at the end of the hallway and was created by Kehoe Designs in collaboration with co-chair Michael Caputo. A giant, golden "Winged Victory" stood watch behind the bar that was flanked by soaring golden, sculptural candle holders. As guests perused the extensive silent auction, white ostrich feathers in golden urns lined the hallway. It was truly a gorgeous event! office). Bruno has always been a pioneer in the industry opening his first hotspot in the West Loop, Follia, where he served not only delicious food but also showcased local design talent. The Winnetka location will have 50-55 tables including a chef's table for 10. Abate cooks with his signature pure silver pans, which allow dishes to be cooked slowly over low heat. Out of a side window, baked goods such as panini, pizza and breads will be sold from 11am until the restaurant closes. I'm so happy for Bruno, not only is he a genius when it comes to food but he's also a champion in the world of philanthropy with his much needed work in the prisons teaching inmates to cook (thus preparing them for a new life on the street) through his nonprofit, Recipe for Change. All good Bruno! Keep up the great work with all of your endeavors!

Cooper's Hawk Winery & Restaurant's new flagship on Oak St.

Three months after Del Frisco's closed, the old Esquire Theater space has a new tenant. Cooper's Hawk Winery & Restaurant, the suburban chain founded in 2005 in Orland Park is now open! The space is still as elegant as ever and the centerpiece, the "wine tower" is still in tact albeit more appropriate now with Cooper's Hawk's wine history. The location at 58 E. Oak St. is the first Chicago restaurant in its 14 year history and will now serve as its

The menu is loaded with tantalizing dishes for every taste. This restaurant is also the only one in the franchise that will offer non-Cooper's Hawk wines. The chain has 35 locations in nine states, mostly in the Midwest. Welcome to the 'hood CH! Opened to the public, Monday, November 11.

FullSizennnRenderI hope you enjoyed the early snowfall! Oh, happy day! We've begun putting up our Christmas decor with the festive holiday musical backdrop of Melissa Forman and 93.9 The Lite. After dragging 5 trees (4 for the balcony, one for indoors) out of our storage locker and into our home, we discovered that not one damn light worked. Oh well, that's God's way of telling me I need a new tree. Soooo, I found a unique "Flip" tree from Balsam Hill and I'll let you know if it meets the hype. (See video here). Hope you're gearing up now for whatever holiday is your favorite too! Nothing wrong with turkey either! Gobble! Gobble!

Blog 1 - Supermodel Lily AldridgeSupermodel Lily Aldridge was destined for fame from the start. Born in LA in 1985 to famed British fashion photographer Alan Aldridge and Playboy Playmate Laura Lyons (my darling girlfriend), she hails from a fashion oriented family. Her dream was Blog 2 - Ruby and Lily Aldridge with mom Laura Lyonsalways to be a model and this dream came true at age eight when she was discovered at her school carnival. Her siblings include half-sister Saffron Aldridge (a multi-year face of Ralph Lauren in the ‘90s), half-brother Miles Aldridge (married to ‘90s supermodel Kristen McMenamy) and sister Ruby Aldridge (one of the faces of Blog 3 - Pic by Russell JamesMarc by Marc Jacobs who is already well on her way to fame as a budding supermodel herself). Mom Laura had quite a career herself with the Playboy Blog 4 - Caleb and Lily's weddingempire beginning with her Chicago Bunny of the Year honors in 1975. Her gatefold followed with her Playboy Playmate of the Month pictorial in February 1976 and as a Bunny/Playmate, she was known for leading the march for Bunny Rights in Chicago, which was highly publicized at the time. Like mother, like daughter, Lily’s career is growing by leaps and bounds…but instead of Bunny tails, she’s wearing Angel wings! She has been seen in spreads for Italian Vogue, Italian Elle, Glamour, L’Uomo Vogue, Teen Vogue and Cosmopolitan, among many other publications. At age 18, she Blog 5 - Laura Lyons as Chicago’s 1975 Bunny of the Yearappeared on the cover of Spanish Vogue. In 2009, she modeled in the Blog 8 - Lily in VS campaign by Russell JamesVictoria’s Secret Fashion Show for the first time and after several campaigns for the company, she earned her wings and became a Victoria’s Secret Angel in 2010. This year, of the 38 Angels appearing in the show taped in early November at NYC’s Lexington Avenue Armory, Lily was featured as one of the highlights along with Miranda Kerr (wife of actor Orlando Bloom and who wore the $2.5 million “Fantasy Bra”), Skokie’s Erin Heatherton, Chanel Iman, Candice Swanepol and Adriana Lima. Blog 9 - Lily working the Red CarpetHer fairytale life is continuing with her marriage on May 12, 2011, to Kings of Leon frontman Caleb Followill at the luxurious San Ysidro Ranch in Montecito, California. In addition to modeling, Lily is also setting her sights on acting…I can’t wait to see her gorgeous face on the silver screen! (For more pics, please click HERE!)

Blog 1 - Tony Hu charms the ladiesIt is always a challenge deciding where to go in Chicago for special occasions since almost EVERY restaurant in town is a good choice. For our annual Girls Night Out Holiday Dinner, we wanted to do something completely Blog 2 - Sheila O’Grady and Tony Hudifferent, something with a Chinatown connection. This is where celebrity chef, restaurateur and dedicated community server Tony Hu entered the picture. Illinois Restaurant Association President Sheila O’Grady came up with this idea after writing a Blog 3 - Glam décor at Lao You Jufascinating article in TCW about Tony. His Tony Gourmet Group includes Lao Sze Chuan (2172 S. Archer Ave.), Lao Shanghai (2136 S. China Place), Lao Beijing (2138 S. Archer), Lao You Ju (2202 S. Wentworth) and Lao Hunan Blog 4 - Tony Hu of Tony Gourmet Group(2230 S. Wentworth). Sheila made reservations at Lao You Ju and, of course (knowing Sheila!) brought champagne but it was Tony himself who wowed the group with his extensive knowledge of food and wine and did I say charm? His charm alone Blog 5would attract a large clientele even if his food wasn’t fantastic, but it is! I highly recommend this group of restaurants. Each one offers a different flavor of China and Taiwan and it shows a part of our city’s dining scene that many people don’t often get a chance to experience. Ask for Tony…and be prepared to chat! 🙂

GM Maria Zec and Catering Director Greg Hyder hosted and Chef Kai Lermen prepared a delectable menu that included Blog 4 - With Hazel Barr and Mary Pat Burnsstriped bass, butternut squash risotto with parmesan and the most delightful holiday dessert selections you’ve ever seen. Blog 1 - Gayle Anthony, Julie Weindling and Donnie MadiaDonnie Madia’s Blackbird on Randolph still packs them in and it was a great treat to spend a night there with friends Gayle Anthony, her sister Julie Weindling and Paul Iacono. Another great evening was spent at Blog 2 - Rhonda Sanderson, Hedwig and Bob Golant at The SouthernJim Lasky’s The Southern on North Avenue (their fried chicken is to DIE for!) with friends Hedwig and Bob Golant, host Rhonda Sanderson, John Amato, Sheryl Dyer and Alan Sax. “I wonder what Piglet is doing," thought Winnie-the-Pooh, "I wish I were there to be doing it, too." 1011-Nut1I am so proud of The Joffrey Ballet’s Nutcracker! Have you heard the news? Goldstar, an online ticket seller, selected our Nutcracker as the country’s best-loved Nutcracker based on member reviews and ratings. The Joffrey’s Nut beat out more than 50 productions from around the country to earn this title! Additionally, they will receive a cash prize for their C & C invite, 9-15-2008educational programs. I am also thrilled to report that for the first time, the Joffrey’s “Couture & Cocktails” party has made Biz Bash's “Chicago’s Top 100 Events” list. Kudos to The Joffrey Ballet who is racking up more wins than Meryl Streep!

Bookcvr300dpiI know that holiday gift giving is over but that doesn’t mean a New Year’s gift is out of the question! My suggestion: Beth Aldrich’s fabulous and informative book, “Real Moms Love to Eat.” Aldrich says, “Diets make everyone feel tired, empty, Beth relaxing in the kitchenstressed and unfulfilled. In my book, I explain how to eat the foods we love with some tweaks – learning how to control indulgences, understanding why we crave what we do and how to still enjoy our dysfunctional food friends (salt, fat and sugar) all with just a little makeover.” Congrats Beth on a wonderful book that includes not only tasty recipes but an interesting life story along the way!

Blog 1 - US 99’s Julie DentChuck and I were so proud to be a part of PAWS’ “12 Strays of Christmas” adoption event which began on December 13th. Leading Chicago area shelters with nearly 2,763 animals transferred from Chicago’s Animal Care & Control (ACC), PAWS Chicago has helped reach an all-time euthanasia low of 10,599 cats and dogs in 2010. The magnitude of Blog 3 - Cook County Sheriff Tom Dartthis progress is best seen when compared to the 26,394 animals euthanized there in 1997. With special holiday hours through the Blog 4 - WBBM radio’s Julie Mann and niece Laurenend of December, the PAWS website and the Adoption Center will feature a special group of animals available for adoption each day. As pets at the Adoption Center find new homes, PAWS Chicago will be able to take in more homeless dogs and cats, saving more lives.
