I may be biased, but I think Chicago is absolutely magical during the holidays. From the gazillion pop-up bars that are decorated to the nines, to dining at the newly renamed Marshall Fields Walnut Room, there is something for every taste. And since my taste for all things Christmas runs to the excessive end of the spectrum, I know I am exactly where I need to be. Hope you’re feeling the same!

The Christkindlmarket in Chicago hosted its annual “’Twas the Night Before Christkindlmarket” preview event Nov. 20 at Daley Plaza, giving ticket holders an exclusive first look at the holiday market. From 5:00 to 8:30 PM, guests strolled through the wooden vendor huts in a quieter, more relaxed setting, sampling seasonal treats, browsing handcrafted ornaments and enjoying the festive atmosphere before the market opened to the public the next day.
New this year, was a performance of “The Nutcracker” performed by Ballet 5:8 dancers.
The event featured the market’s traditional opening ceremony, during which the Christkind delivered her Prologue, officially launching the season. Musicians, including Alpine brass bands, moved through the plaza, adding a warm, cultural soundtrack to the evening.
A highlight of the night was a performance by Ballet5:8: their adaptation Beyond the Nutcracker was presented inside a life‑sized snow globe, with dancers in mid‑century costumes performing amid softly falling “snow,” blending a theatrical edge with holiday tradition.
Guests also gathered in a heated Alpine-style tent, where they could take a break, warm up enjoy food and drink and the smooth sounds of popular singer Blake Alexander. The ticket package included a 2025 Annual Mug, an entrée, dessert, and drink coupons, all part of creating a full, immersive evening. Photo opportunities were woven into the event- attendees could get their pictures taken with Santa and Mrs. Claus and, with the incredible visuals, there was a photo opp around every corner.
While general admission to the Christkindlmarket remains free, the preview night provides a more curated and personal experience: early access to vendors, special entertainment and a more intentional way to welcome in the holiday season.
The City has recently put limitations on attendance for this original market at Daley Plaza- it’s now below the number during the Covid restrictions!? Yes, I agree it can be crowded at times, but I think this only adds to the charm. I would rather be rubbing shoulders with happy, like-minded holiday goers than waiting in hour-long lines to get in. Anway, I’m with you Christkindlmarket- whatever works best for YOU, works for me. Good luck!

PAWS Chicago celebrated a record-breaking evening at its sold-out 24th annual Fur Ball at The Drake Hotel Nov. 14. The event, presented by Nan and Wayne Kocourek, drew 650 guests, many with canine companions dressed in elegant gowns and tuxes.

The evening, co-chaired by Lindsay and Carter Hawkins and Laura Sachs and Jordan Fisher, with Pam and Ed Carey serving as honorary co-chairs, raised $2.1 million to support PAWS Chicago’s lifesaving mission, funding medical care, recovery and second chances for the city’s most vulnerable pets.

FOX 32 Chicago’s Sylvia Perez, Jake Hamilton and Natalie Bomke emceed the event alongside Fred of 103.5 KISS FM, guiding attendees through a memorable program across two ballrooms. Highlights included an impact video unveiling PAWS Chicago’s newly acquired Rescue Ranch in Hawthorn Woods, a 20-acre suburban adoption and enrichment center that will expand the organization’s capacity to care for large dogs, offer behavior training, walking trails, suites for dozens of animals and a surgical clinic providing free and low-cost spay/neuter services.

Throughout the evening, volunteers showcased adoptable pets, including Juniper, an 8-year-old senior rescued from the streets, and Smartie, a 3-month-old Terrier mix, rescued by PAWS from Chicago Animal Care & Control, the city’s impoundment facility. Smartie, and several others, found homes that night.

The live auction was a centerpiece of excitement, featuring exclusive experiences such as an intimate dinner for eight hosted by Giuliana and Bill Rancic, a Chicago Cubs and Barstool Sports fan package for ten, a multi-course culinary event with Chef Doug Psaltis and Pastry Chef Hsing Chen alongside artistic contributions from Billy Corgan and Chloé Mendel Corgan, and a seven-night voyage aboard the world’s largest private residential mega-yacht, The World. Guests enjoyed photo booths, custom pet portraits, dancing and special treats for their canine companions, including a gourmet dinner and Kismet treat buffet.

PAWS Chicago continues to make a major impact in the community, with plans to find homes for nearly 5,000 pets this year, provide 21,000 free and low-cost spay/neuter surgeries, deliver 50,000 vaccinations to pets in need and serve 26,000 homeless and at-risk animals at the Kocourek Medical Center.

Uniting Voices Chicago filled The Geraghty with music and celebration at its Red Jacket Optional gala Oct. 18, where nearly 500 guests helped raise more than $1.8 million to support the organization’s sliding-scale music education programs.

Serving nearly 4,000 young people across the city, including students in more than 85 Chicago Public Schools, the nonprofit provides accessible youth empowerment and arts programming to children from every neighborhood. The evening featured high-energy performances by Uniting Voices ensembles, including Broadway favorites, international selections and the debut of the original piece My Joy. Medleys such as Good Vibrations and A Tutta Vita brought the crowd to its feet and Voice of Chicago delivered a powerful rendition of Ke Nale Modisa set against scenic visuals of South Africa. Guests also enjoyed cuisine by Boka Catering Group, an open bar, a premium live auction and a lively after-party.

Lee, an Emmy-winning and Grammy-nominated conductor who has led Uniting Voices for 26 years, shared her vision for expanding the organization’s creative partnerships and civic impact. Under her leadership, students have performed at venues such as Lyric Opera, Ravinia Festival, The Kennedy Center and Lollapalooza, and toured internationally, including a recent collaboration at Egypt’s Cairo Opera House.

Over 425 guests gathered at The Casino, a private club in Chicago’s Gold Coast, for a festive evening of cocktails and hors d’oeuvres in support of the Edwards Family Division of Genetics and Rare Diseases and the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Lurie Children’s.

This year’s Winter Wishes set a new event fundraising record, raising $638,602 towards the Founders’ Board’s three-year $3 million commitment to the Edwards Family Division of Genetics and Rare Diseases and the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Lurie Children’s.

This year at Macy’s on State Street, the holiday tradition took on both elegance and heritage. Inside the Walnut Room on the 7th floor, the 45‑foot Great Tree stands newly decorated in colors of green, blue and gold to reflect the legacy of Marshall Field & Company. The dining room has been officially renamed “The Marshall Field’s Walnut Room” and features a commemorative plaque at its entrance.
The windows along State Street carry the theme “The Most Wonderful Stories Start Here,” blending familiar holiday motifs, such as the green Marshall Field’s clock and Frango chocolates, with the store’s historic identity. The Great Tree will be viewable now through Sunday, Jan. 11, 2026.
I definitely think re-imagining more of Macy’s as the original Marshall Field’s could only help its bottom line. Already I’m hearing that reservations for the Walnut Room are harder to get than they have ever been- and I would guess it’s because people are lovin’ a little taste of the original. Amen to this!

The 10th annual True Blue Gala, held at the Four Seasons Hotel Chicago, was a record-breaker with over 400 guests dedicated to celebrating and supporting the men and women of the Chicago Police Department.

Hosted by the Chicago Police Foundation, the seven-year-old nonprofit led by prominent business and community leaders, raised more than $750,000 to fund supplemental resources in technology, advanced training, community outreach and essential safety equipment, including life-saving LEMART kits used in the field.

Chaired by board member Pamella Capitanini and hosted by Executive Director Mary Ann Rose, the Nov. 14 event set an unmistakably powerful tone from the moment guests arrived. A mounted equestrian unit greeted attendees at the entrance, joined by SWAT officers in full gear stationed beside their armored rescue vehicle.
Inside the ballroom, supporters explored a silent auction featuring experiences with Superintendent Larry Snelling, behind-the-scenes tours with CPD’s canine and mounted units and a Marine unit experience. A Caitlin Clark jersey packaged with Wintrust Stadium Dollars emerged as a standout item in the live auction.

The Landis Family Foundation underwrote the event for the second consecutive year, underscoring its commitment to the Foundation’s mission. Superintendent Snelling addressed the crowd, emphasizing the importance of CPF’s support in equipping the department with tools that directly improve officer and community safety.

The evening also included a special announcement: a $100,000 grant from Norfolk Southern Railroad to help fund the purchase of a drone to aid in crime prevention, an investment expected to enhance CPD’s technological capabilities.

History in the making! Chicago Chef Art Smith has prepared the first American-style Thanksgiving dinner at the Vatican’s Castel Gandolfo, the summer residence used by popes for more than 400 years. Illuminate 900 2025, as exciting as ever!
Chicago’s holiday season officially sparkled to life on Thurs., Nov. 20, when 900 North Michigan Shops hosted its annual “Illuminate 900” celebration, a glittering winter wonderland party capped by the lighting of one of the city’s tallest Christmas trees. From 6 to 8 p.m., the glamorous shopping destination turned six stories of luxury retail into a festive fantasy filled with live entertainment, ZZAZZ Productions performers, seasonal food and drink and hands-on holiday fun for all ages.

Celebrity couple Giuliana andBill Rancic returned as hosts, guiding guests through an evening designed as a “holiday love letter” to Chicago. The celebration built toward its most heartwarming moment, when Santa joined a Make-A-Wish child onstage to officially flip the switch and light the 54-foot-tall tree, the first major tree to sparkle on Michigan Avenue this season. The event also served as Make-A-Wish Illinois’ top Chicago holiday fundraiser, with over $30,000 in proceeds helping grant life-changing wishes to children facing critical health challenges.

Here’s some not-to-be-missed events for your calendar! WINGS’ “Sweet Home Chicago” will return to the Four Seasons Dec. 14, 10-1 pm. This wonderful nonprofit provides care and support for survivors of domestic violence. This event, in my opinion, is one of the best in Chicago for family fun. As you can see, Chicago is loaded with fun. Frankly, not only during the holidays but all throughout the year. The joy on Rich Gamble’s face (as seen in this photo) represents all the excitement I hope we’re all feeling at this time of the year. was a great chance to really see the amazing gifts on offer up close and actually chat with the vendors. I spoke to Frank of Frank's Ornament House, he's been coming to the market for 25 years and absolutely loves it. He said, "I love seeing people come here from around the world and am proud to display my over 2,500 ornaments from my country [Germany]!" Another vendor's daughter had designed several of the ornaments on display which I thought was so charming. Everyone has a story and I wish I could've chatted with every one of them. A buffet dinner was offered in the heated Grand Timber Haus where many of the food items for sale in the market could be sampled. (The potato pancakes were out of this world.). Carolers and the Phenix Trio provided a festive soundtrack to the market. The following day, the market in Wrigleyville/ Gallagher Way opened and, for the first time, a skating rink was placed inside Wrigley Field! It was so cool to see the stadium used in this way. What a privilege it was to be a part of this night that raised funds to help Eversight restore sight through the healing power of donation, transplantation and research. Dr. Onkar Sawant, the head of research and innovation, attended the event and was on hand to answer any questions. I was honored to return as co-chair with the dear Michael Caputo. This the 75th anniversary for Eversight and I hope I'm around to celebrate its 175th! The Chinese American Service League (CASL) hosted its Annual Gala October 12, attracting hundreds of prominent Chicagoans as well as notable Asian American and Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander (AANHPI) leaders from across the country. Presented by the Sue Ling Gin Foundation Trust and chaired by Michael Tang – Chairman, Tang Industries, CASL’s Annual Gala was held at Chicago’s historic Old Post Office. The highlight of the event was the presentation of CASL’s prestigious Golden Lion Award to The Asian AmericanFoundation (TAAF). As co-chair of CASL’s Advisory Board and organizational supporter for over two decades, Emmy award-winning anchor Judy Hsu of ABC-7 Chicago returned as the evening’s emcee. CASL’s esteemed Culinary Training Program, once again served appetizers during cocktail hour. CASL’s Annual Gala raises money for nearly 30 social service programs—such as child development, senior services, legal assistance, employment, citizenship, and more—that serve thousands of individuals in and around Chicago’s Chinatown and beyond. Since TAAF’s inception in 2021, the organization has passionately fought to elevate the voices of all AANHPI organizations, communities, and individuals across the country while making significant strides toward a more equitable future. During its first two years, TAAF has built impactful relationships with the Biden Administration, created a national Anti-Hate Action Network, and secured greater representation for the AANHPI community through achievements such as advocating for and securing the first AANHPI Muppet on Sesame Street, helping pass the TEAACH Act in Illinois, and more. The Golden Lion Award, bestowed upon individuals or organizations that positively impact the AANHPI community and embrace CASL’s spirit, was designed and created by the internationally renowned Zhou Brothers. The City of Chicago, Mag Mile Association and World Business Chicago led a strategy, coming out of pandemic recovery, to transform vacant retail spaces into experiences featuring local small businesses and the city’s strong global connections. Thus, was born three pop up shops on the Mag Mile, the Argentine Connection, Nordic House and Colores Mexicanos Chicago. Another pop-up is coming next week to Michigan Avenue. One of my favorite events of the year, and one definitely not to be missed by families, is WINGS Program, Inc.'s "Sweet Home Chicago" event. It will be held at the Four Seasons on Dec. 11 from 10 am to 1 pm. This year's 19th annual event will be co-chaired by Rita and John Canning to support families facing domestic violence issues. It will include gingerbread house decorating, balloon artists, family portraits, ornament decorating, visiting with Santa and K-9 Comfort Dogs, a special music performance by Ralph's World and MORE! This production at the Lyric seems bigger, brighter and bolder, maybe it’s because the stage is larger at the Lyric which allows the dancers more room to shine and also more room to showcase the spectacular visuals! Congrats to the Oakbrook Chapter of the Infant Welfare Society Family Health on its 50th anniversary! They hosted their annual Mistletoe Medley, "Hearts of Gold," fashion show at Drury Lane Oakbrook Terrace on November 29. The show was produced by ZZAZZ Productions (Tracey Tarantino DiBuono) with Alison Rosati returning as its inspiring emcee. The event was co-chaired by the dynamic duo, Linda Layland and Marge Tresley. Before the event, guests shopped a fabulous holiday market with over 30 vendors. Funds raised supported healthcare services and education for underserved and vulnerable Chicagoans.

The CSO's recent "Sounds of Celebration: An Evening at Home with the CSO", a virtual event, was a blockbuster raising over $910,000 (and counting) on October 31! Musical stars from around the world reflected on what makes the CSO so special with superstar cellist Yo-Yo Ma creating an evening highlight during his duet with fellow cellist Dara Hankins, a Civic Orchestra member. Chiming in from Ravenna, Italy, CSO music director Riccardo Muti said, "I'm waiting until the orchestra can be together again…My family, my music family, is the Chicago Symphony so practically, I am sort of a father without the family around." He thinks the reunion will be "like a miracle" with the "feelings of every person coming together to create something really magical." Other contributors to the special evening included jazz pianist Herbie Hancock, trumpeter/composer Wynton Marsalis and pianist Mitsuko Uchida. The evening concluded with Robert Chen and principal cellist John Sharp performing Ravel's Sonata for Violin and Cello.

At the 20th annual WINGS' Purple Tie Ball on October 3, 400 attendees came together virtually to end domestic violence, celebrate survivors and support victims. Hill award, an award given to an outstanding WINGS graduate each year. 80 guests received a "Gala in a Bag," delivered by the Entertaining Company that included dinner, wine, hand sanitizer, chocolates and a program book. The funds raised, over $325,000, will help support WINGS' mission to provide housing, integrated services, education and advocacy to end domestic violence.
On October 29, the Chinese American Service League (CASL) honored its founder and former President Bernie Wong, with the Lifetime Achievement Award during its annual Gala (presented virtually this year by the Sue Ling Gin Foundation). Starting with two
donated desks and chairs in 1978, Bernie grew CASL into the largest social service agency in the Midwest dedicated to serving Chinese Americans and immigrants. Bernie has been named in numerous lists of influential people in Chicago and beyond, even being awarded the “Champion for Change” award at the White House in 2012 by President Barack Obama. The event was emceed by ABC-7's Judy Hsu (co-chair of CASL's Advisory Board) and included congratulatory videos from Father Francis Li, Esther Wong, Kenneth Gunn (Acting Commissioner at Chicago Human Relations), Ling and Francis Leung, Pauline Pak,Lois Chan, Amy Wishnick and many others. I don't know if you read the New York Social Diary but it's one of my favorites, especially writer Blair Sabol. Her wit and wisdom is always spot on and I particularly loved her latest column that pretty much nails the way some of us might be feeling now (at least it does for me). "An endless fatigue has set in that is making us feel lax even with last week’s viral resurgence. We are losing interest, so our masks are slipping below our nose and our vigilance is faltering. It’s getting old and we are getting older. Remember last March when we were all in it to win it? Nightly we banged pots in our cities from apartment windows for all medical first responders. That seems years ago. We’ve gone from cheers to jeers. We’ve morphed from impatience to rage to exhausted disinterest." But we're trying Blair! (Read her full column here).

I found it interesting to learn that a few of NYC's hotspot restaurants are adding new locations in Palm Beach. Swifty's, our favorite, has completely decamped to PB where it has found a second life under the watchful eye of Robert Caravaggi (lunch and dinner poolside only for now). Le Bilboquet will be opening there soon and La Goulue Palm Beach has already opened for dinner only.
Chicago Star Mediawill host its first Streeterville Week, a community-focused event that will spotlight and support local businesses, all of which will be offering exclusive deals. The event was created to lift community spirits, boost morale and encourage residents and visitors to shop locally. Join them (and me) for a fun-filled kick-off event at Ogden Plaza (300 E. North Water) from 12:30 to 2 pm. A series of deals will be on offer during the week at gyms, hotels and other neighborhood businesses plus special menus at restaurants. For the kick-off, Marley Kayden of "Chicago's Best" on WGN-TV will serve as emcee, which will be live-streamed on the Chicago Star Media Facebook page and open to the public. The program, designed to support local artists and brighten this normally gray area of Streeterville, features rotating appearances from Chicago performers and street musicians, including actor Vikram Konkimalla — known for his role as Tiny Tim in The Goodman Theatre's "A Christmas Carol "— and Andrew David, a street performer whose powerful cover of “Hallelujah” in Chicago’s empty streets went viral this spring. To ensure the safety of attendees and performers during the walk-by event, masks are required, signs indicating social distancing will be placed in front of performers. Each performer will display a QR code to receive tips from passersby. Participating Streeterville Week restaurants will include Beatrix Market, Tallboy Taco, Pinstripes, Cupitol Coffee & Eatery, Labriola, Pinched on the River, Robert’s Pizza and Dough Company, Rosebud Steakhouse, Saigon Sisters and Yolk, among others. The restaurants in and around Gibson's and LuxBar got a treat Wednesday night, courtesy of the Shannon Rovers who marched and played much to the delight of diners. Their intent was to "bring a smile to people's faces and a little happiness during these trying times." They succeeded.

Another wonderful way to get into the holiday spirit is a family-friendly viewing of Eleanor's Very Merry Christmas Wish-The Musical, which will be available to stream November 27–December 27. DMen Tap will keep Christkindlmarket's beloved tradition alive this year!
As we now know, the Christkindlmarket will be held online this year (see website here, through Dec. 31), but you can still get the experience thanks to DMen Tap, an Avondale restaurant that will offer a similar experience with traditional German food, sipping hot drinks from one of the festival's signature mugs and even a photo backdrop for Insta pics. With the pop-up, the owners of DMen Tap are looking to keep the holiday tradition alive and bring in revenue during the pandemic, which has restaurants and bars across Chicago struggling to survive. If reports are true that Pfizer has found a vaccine for Covid (that will be ready by the end of the month?!), our collective prayers have been answered! I know we probably won't go back to "normal." Quite frankly, I'm not even sure what this means anymore. I do miss all of our in-person events, that's a given, but I also miss the little things like lingering in bookstores (when I could find one) or spending hours wandering around the make-up section in a department store and actually TRYING THINGS ON. worthwhile. I'm keeping busy writing The Blog (thanks to all my new subscribers too!), writing for Chicago Now and pondering some possibilities. I had a blast hosting the Apparel Industry Board Foundation'sRev Up event and would like to do more of that. I'd also like to discuss my events and what's going on in Chicago on some media outlets. I'm looking forward to a new venture with Tracey Tarantino DiBuono and videographer Troy Mairs that will be fun and fulfilling. In every case, I will continue to be a voice for Chicago, its charities, its happenings and whatever else is exciting and makes our city shine. Yes, despite Covid, the future is looking very bright. I can't wait to see what's around the next corner, hopefully a cure!

The Art Institute’s “Let it Snow” was a debut holiday party that enchanted young and old and from the looks of joy on the children’s faces is sure to become a seasonal favorite. The Women’s Board of the Art Institute, led by president Francie Comer and event chair Laura Werner, were delighted with the turnout of more than 350 guests for this inaugural event. As you entered Griffin Court of the Modern Wing, it felt as if you had crawled inside a giant snow globe. The twinkling snowflakes projected by Frost Lighting all around the room completed this effect as guests looked on in wonder. Balloonists and performance artists greeted everyone at the entrance. Children were dressed in their finest holiday wardrobes and delighted at the balloons fashioned into gingerbread men, reindeer, candy canes and more. Partygoers sampled delicious and creative hors d’oeuvres by Bon Appetit that included treats such as caviar on toast points, beef tenderloin crostinis and butternut squash soup shooters with maple popcorn. To the delight of the kiddies, macaroni and cheese, PB&J sandwiches, ham and cheese lollipops and pigs in a blanket were served. An extensive and colorful dessert display completed the bountiful buffet with s’mores and mixed berry shortcakes, cheesecake lollipops, cookies and cupcakes. As guests sampled the buffet tables, the local gospel choir True Voices of Christ performed on the grand staircase, beginning appropriately with “Let it Snow.” The gingerbread house contest was something to see as competing museum departments vied for the win. Entries included a gingerbread school, fire station, train station, theater and more, all representing scenes of Chicago. Everyone was already on sensory overload when the Midnight Circus stepped into the spotlight. Founded by Julie and Jeff Jenkins, the performance included jugglers, clowns, musicians, dancers, acrobats, aerialists and magicians as well as the “Chicago Boyz” who wowed the crowd. I can’t wait to attend this fun event next year and I know that it will become a perennial favorite. Seen on the scene were Anne and Will Hokin, Naomi Reese, Margot and Mark Bowen, Karen Gray, Max and Jim Farrell, Susan and Michael Canmann, Cathy and Michael Busch, Stephanie and Bill Sick, Jan and Bill Jentes, Melissa and Ward McNally, Elizabeth O’Connor Cole, Connie and David Coolidge, Ikram and Josh Goldman, Kay Krehbiel, Ellen and Jim O’Connor, Penny Pritzker, Gigi Pritzker Pucker, Shirley Ryan, Brenda

TheService Club’s annual Holiday Luncheon was a beautiful affair held in one of the most magnificent rooms in all of Chicago, the Cathedral Room at the University Club. Event Chair Sheree Valukas, along with her formidable committee, welcomed 150 women who came dressed in their most festive outfits to celebrate and raise funds for one of the oldest philanthropic organizations in the city. A holiday bazaar made Christmas shopping easy this year and vendors included LuLu’s at the Belle Kay, Bountiful Homes, Elsa Johnson, Elda de la Rosa, Fabbri Furs, Hinsdale Furriers, Jennifer Kole Designs, Joelle Nadine, Leslie Hodes, Mary Mary, Pam Bernstein, Shrine and Tails in the City. There was new as well as vintage jewelry collections, magnificent furs, designer clothing, men’s gifts and even something for Fido to put under the tree at this extensive, something-for-everyone shopping extravaganza. The Chicago Gay Men’s Chorus’ beautiful voices filled the elegant room with sounds of the season as jolly little bell-clad elves roamed among the tables much to the ladies’ delight. A delicious, seasonal luncheon included roasted butternut squash soup, parmesan crusted Amish chicken and chocolate raspberry crème tarts. As always, there was a philanthropic component to the day as the SC ladies all brought children’s gifts to benefit Clara’s House Shelter. The Women’s Board of Misericordia presented their annual Heart of Mercy Ball this year at the Fairmont Hotel. More than 650 people attended this black tie ball which raised more than $600K. Honorees this year included the Reverend Monsignor Michael Boland who received the Sister Rosemary Connelly Service Medallion and the Brian and Sue Shannon family who received the Heart of Mercy Award. The evening also included a silent and live auction (what event nowadays doesn’t?) and the music of the Ken Arlen Orchestra. All of the money raised supports Misericordia Home, Heart of Mercy, in Chicago which serves more than 600 children and adults with developmental disabilities from diverse racial, religious and socio-economic backgrounds on its 31-acre campus. By serving society’s most vulnerable citizens, Misericordia also serves the families who want the best for them, yet cannot provide it at home. (You might recognize Sister Rosemary as the feisty nun who jokingly stood up to Mayor Emanuel recently over beginning to charge charities for water.) Did everyone see Chicago’s own Chef Art Smith in the fabulous Thanksgiving special hosted by Lady Gaga??!! Well, I know for sure that 5.4 million of you watched: It was the highest-rated show in this time slot! Huge congrats to Chef Art and Lady Gaga! Chef Art also attended a party at Barney’s in NY with his better half, partner Jesus Salguiero, to celebrate the windows that Gaga has designed for the store for the holidays…what a dynamic duo! I can’t wait to see what they “cook up” next!
The Chicago Photographer’s Party was held recently at one of my favorite restaurants, Tocco (located at 1266 N. Milwaukee) in honor of our wonderful local photographers! If it wasn’t for them, how in the world would we keep track of all of the social comings and goings? So, it was a fitting night of celebration that attracted around 200 party loving guests. There was a fantastic fashion display that featured gowns by Anna Fong, Borris Powell, Elda de la Rosa and Karol Barrero. Models Nicole Townsend, Bebe Georgieva, Cassandra and Freida Medina dressed up the room while the wonderful sounds of the Steve Biossat Trio filled the air. Handsome Tocco owner Bruno Abate was hard at work making sure everyone got a chance to sample his delicious Italian cuisine. (The pizzas are my favorite!) The event was planned by the Red Carpet Concierge of Chicago committee that included Steve Starr, Sandra Smith-Doghmi and Javier Enriquez. Speaking of parties, I must say the latest issue (December) of Michigan Avenue Magazine has to be my very favorite! I wonder why!? I loved the party scene and those fabulous clothes and I am so grateful to Susanna Negovan for including me!! Photographer to the stars Steve Starr looked dapper as well in his two-page spread. I thought this was their best fashion feature to date. The jewelry, accessories and wardrobe were all so well planned and the models were just so darn cute/handsome! This magazine just keeps getting better and better and I couldn’t be happier for them! Congrats Mich Mag and thanks so very much for including me! 🙂
When I first met my neighbor down the street, Steve Weiss, I had no idea what he did for a living. And quite frankly, I still don’t know for sure other than the fact that he is an owner of Zacuto, which is one of the largest high-quality, originally-designed motion picture camera accessory manufacturing companies around. And Zacuto Films produces its own original web series with six Emmy nods and two wins. As I question him more, I find out that everyone – and I do mean EVERYONE – uses a piece of his equipment…who knew?!

Is there a more beautiful city in the country than Chicago during the holidays? Granted, New York has a lot to offer – I love those Bergdorf Goodman windows and the Barney’s windows, this year decorated by Lady Gaga and who could resist that huge snowflake hanging in the center of Fifth Avenue? – but we have that and more (kinda)! I’ve never seen a prettier display than our own Lincoln Park Zoo’s “ZooLights” display. I can just imagine the animals having holiday parties after all of the humans have gone. And who can resist the Christkindlmarket in Daley Plaza? This delightful spot is one of my favorites with its variety of crafts, gifts, entertainment, German food, drinks and more! Macy’s windows are always a must-see attraction and the Joffrey Nutcracker is a beloved holiday tradition. And finally, I don’t believe there is a prettier spot than right here in my own backyard – the Old Town Triangle. Across the street from us is the most popular house on any Chicago tour, a darling fisherman’s cottage owned by Steppenwolf’s lucky David Hawkanson. I love this city that just keeps getting better and better and better…can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings! Have a happy holiday!
